I need to know how the electric choke on my gy6 150 works. I get the mechanics of how a choke works, but I need to know how to test the electrical part of it.

You can take it off and unplug it and connect it to your 12v battery. As it heats up the element inside it pushs the Plunger out to shut off the Extra Fuel when it is COLD. The Default of the ENRICHER(CHOKE) is the Plunger is RETRACTED to allow extra fuel to get sucked out of the Carb Bowl for COLD STARTS. Once the Scooter Starts it then gets VOLTAGE and the Plunger starts to EXTEND OUT within 2-3 minutes to shut off the extra fuel. As long as the scooter is running it STAYS EXTENDED until you shut the scooter off and as it COOLS the PLUNGER then RETRACTS to be ready for the next COLD START. Lefty

1) Disconnect the choke and remove from carb.
2) Check resistance at connector. New, they should be about 4 - 5 Ohms. 10 Ohms and higher - replace.
3) Measure how far the spring-loaded plunger is extended. Connect leads to a 12V battery or power supply. Plunger should extend another 1/8" or so. If not, it's defective.
