and this forum, long time lurker, and still trying to decide what I want. I intend to go the used route and will more than likely use craigslist. I'll most likely end with a chinese brand since the used price on them makes them even more disposable than even a new one. I'm thinking about a 49-50cc for local and 250+ plus to cruise out of town since I'd like to make this hobby and see what's out there on the weekends.

Welcome! I would think that unless you got a GOOD used one for under $200 you'd be better off just buying NEW for around $619 to your door and avoid the used/beaten like a rented mule, broken in who knows how... headaches. I don't think a used 49 cc scooter is worth the potential trouble, especially if you have to start replacing worn out parts, tires, brakes, belt, clutch...
