Hey Everyone, I'm thinking of purchasing the above-mentioned scooter from MYATVS.com, was just wondering what to expect as far as color: Some pics (like this: www.myatvs.com/v/vspfiles/photos/T3-2T.jpg [/img]) show the scooters as having a nice, almost candy-apple or metalic finish.....while others (like this: seem to portray them as having a cheap "plasticky"-looking finish. Does anyone know which image is accurate? I really wanted a yellow one...but they are out of stock at MYATVS. I like the way the red one looks in their pic (the top pic), but I'd hate to get it and have it end up looking like the bottom pic! Help...please! Also, if anyone has this scooter, how do you like it? I have a 2008 Taotao 300cc ATV, which has been very reliable...although with typical Chinese cheesiness...but they say the quality of these things is steadily improving, and I don't want to spend too much, as this will be my first scooter, so it is kind of experimental at this point as to whether a 49cc scoot will work for me...... For $700 shipped, it seems to be one of the better cheap-O's! Great forum! I will be introducing myself in the appropriate area shortly. And thanks in advance for any comments/info!

I have an orange one. just your average cheap china scooter.
they all have a "cheap, plasticy" paint finish
if you want candy apple, high gloss or metallic, you will have to paint it yourself

Thanks, Noday!
Kinda what I figgered[sic]. Must just be the sky reflection in that top pic making them appear so nice....which is kinda what I was thinking might be the case.
Hmmm...paint it myself- why didn't I think of that?!
Guess I'll get the blue one (They only have black, blue and red)...if it looks too hideous, I'll paint it candy-apple green!
Noday, if your scooter were stolen/destroyed, would you buy the same one again?

Some of those 50cc TaoTao engines actually measure 60cc. Search this forum for "secret 60" Those guys know a lot more than me on identifying one.

Thanks, Pony- I've heard in various reviews that this was a fast scooter...but thought maybe the riders were just fooled by the poorly-calibrated speedometers.......

Yes, I would buy another. overall build quality is OK, not great.
you will need to rejet the carb as they are jetted too lean from the factory.
may even want to buy another aftermarket carb, as the fuel bowl screws are anti-tamper and must be slotted or drilled out and replaced to get to the jets. A/F screw is capped & cap must be drilled and removed.
do not count on much warranty support.
mine was a 49cc

Give Kevin a call and ask him to take a pic of the actual scoot ,he will do that for you ,but not Dave,.make sure u talk to Kevin, they are the owners.

Wow Taotao really doesn't want you working on their carbs. What happens when they inevitably clog and then you have to clean the carb out? They really should just have made the jets anti tamper and not the entire carb.

It's pretty hard to tell if you have a 60cc. My stock 139qmb Baja SC50 did an indicated 50mph out of the box. That's 42 gps mph. A high compression 60cc should easily do 45 gps mph. On mine that would be an indicated 59 mph. When I switched to a 72cc bbk it pegged the speedometer so far I couldn't tell but it looked like where 60 mph would be on the speedo.

Thanks for the info, guys!
I know some sites are selling the T3 as a "High output" model (They all seem to be orange ones....)- I guess some places know which ones are the 60cc. Shame that ya really don't know what you're getting. Now Ill be disappointed if i don't get a 60!
Braddockmountainoutfitters and MYATVS seem to be sister businesses...only the former has all the colors listed, but charges $150 more...wonder if they are the sleeper 60's and they know it???
Sucks, about the carbs, too. I know on my Taotoa ATV (purchased from Vbike) I had to disassemble and clean the carb on day one...and then again a few weeks later. What a pain it would have been if i had had to drill out screws and caps! We all have to suffer so that they can sell these things in Californy.
I just want to get out there and scoot!

Luv you guys!
Armed with this info about the 60cc's, I called Braddock...who transfered me to Dave at MYATVS...long story short, they can order the 60's!!!! They say all the newer ones that are coming in are 50's, but they can still get a few 60's. -Excellent!
So I'm gonna get me a blue one..... I has found me a scooter!
Yes!
Thanks a million times for turning me on to this! Had I not gone out of my way based on this info, I would have ended up with a 50!
Dave mentioned that on the 60's ya need to change the airbox or they'll blow up!~ Told him I was gonna rejet it too.
Hehe...now I'm excited. A 49 year-old man buying a toy!

You need to look for a stamp on top of the engine "6B" This thread contains the goods, BTW they are 63cc scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=42388You dont need to change the airbox, but a larger main jet in the carb. The airbox are designed very well. It most likely will come with a carb that deters access to A/F mix and the jets. Most dawgs get a new carb for $25 or pry out the covers and cut slots in the screws on the shipped carb.

Thanks, Pony- I tried searching earlier, but couldn't find that thread.....
Heh...guess I'll try busting...I mean adjusting the OEM carb...maybe see iffin' I can't drill those screws out and replace with self-tapping?
I have a feeling if I rejet, or go to a bigger carb (which I'll likely do before long)...drill out or replace the stock exhaust and port and polish the head...I'll have all the power I need for the hills!
Any idea on what size jet to get? Will jets from the Honda dealer fit in there?
Thanks again for all the help!~ This is great!
I think those extra cc's will mean the difference between havinbg a successful scooting experience or being disappointed.

I would order a set of jets from one of the dealers linked at the top. I currently use an 88. You may want a 88-95 for the 63cc. Its trial and error to find the best one for you.
You will be better off changing the CVT and weights before you mess with the exhaust. You will get your hill climbing by tuning the CVT. I just went from 8g rollers to 6g sliders and I only loose 2-3 mph climbing steep hills.
Scrappydogscooters has some real cheap big valve heads. I love looking at that stuff.

You only lose 2-3 MPH on hills? Amazing! I'll follow your advice, as I'd say the performance you get speaks for itself!
I love looking at the performance stuff too! Trouble is, I want it all! Luckily, you're showing me what's essential, and I think I'll be able to get the performance I want from my scooter without going crazy on the mods.... Make it do what I need it to do with the least of amount of mods...keep it simple...is the way to go!
So I take it that these bikes are not restricted? i.e. no washer to take out of the CVT, etc.?
Ya know, before I came to this forum, I was almost giving up on the idea of getting a scooter- I pictured this guy who was in front of me once when I was driving my van....on a two-lane road in town where I think the speed limit is 30 (which means I do 40+)...he was just puttering along at 20MPH. I don't want to be that guy!!! You guys have convinced me that I don't have to be.

One thing with these secret 60's is that they still use the flat metal sheet head gasket, the increase in displacement greatly increases the compression ratio. Some people here have tested an increase from 150 psi for stock to 200+ for secret 60's. The 72cc kits come with a thicker paper gasket with a metal reinforcing ring for the cylinder. This reduces the compression ratio to only a little above stock. Mine was 180 or so psi.
You'll definitely need to run premium gas. Heck if top speed isn't that much faster than a 50 you may even need to get a racing CDI and counterintuitively retard the ignition timing some to unlock the high rpm power. High compression engines don't need as much timing advance at high speed as low compression engines.

Qwerty, wouldn't retarding the timing defeat the purpose of the racing CDI? (I know...you said counter-intuitively....)
What about a name-brand Japanese head gasket?(Like one for an old Honda?)
Who'da thunk there'd be all these concerns with these little scoots? I guess details are even more critical though, when pushing these tiny injuns to do real-world service......

Well guys...the freight company called on Thursday, saying my scoot would arrive on Friday between 1 and 5.
It never showed up; I never heard from the freight company. I emailed the dealer Friday afternoon...never heard back from them....
My scooter is lost in cyber space!
This does not portend good things.....

Larry, yeah, I'll tell you, I don't think there's anything more enjoyable than driving my tractor around and listening to MP3s! The only downside is the cost of parts...the Case dealer wants $148 for an air filter!!!! (I found one with just a slight difference, that I could make work, for $30)
By-the-way, I love that pic of your scoot! I was almost going to get the Tao Tao version of that- the CY50-1A.

Thanks for the info, Darrell.
I got mine today...got it assembled...but I didn't have any gas handy- will get some torrow...and see what she'll do!
So far I'm very impressed with the quality for $700!
And it looks really nice- it looks like the one in the MYATVS.com pic...not like the cheap-looking plastic in the stock photos.....

Hello All,
A month ago, I bought a brand new TaoTao CY-50. The guy who sold me and told me that I needed to change engine oil after the first 100km, so I did it around 130km.
Now, it has about 610km on, the 2nd light on the left (the lower left one) on the panel starts to turn red as soon as I turn the key to ON position. What does the red light mean? The red light stayed on even when I was riding. Is that an indication of some problem?
It is great to discover this wonderful online scooter forum.
Thanks!!
Stoneboy

That is the brake indicator light! You need to turn your scoot on and see if your tail light gets brighter when you pull the brake lever! If it doesn't I would say there is a fault in your electrical system.

Yes, you're right on. Now, I turned on the scooter and hit the brakes. The tail brake light does not come on at all. It must be the faulty electrical system. Do you know how I would repair this? The quality of this bike is really questionable. It is only one month old.

What do you mean by "PDI"?
Thanks! I should have done it earlier as you suggested. It is leaking gas now when I tried to start it.

definitely rejet (replace if necessary) the carb for 88 to 95 as others have said. Mine was running hot with the stock 82 jet, in fact the previous owner had to replace rings at less than 300 mi. I rejetted the carb for 88 and it runs great, gets me where I need to go. Just as usual, keep on top of preventative maintenance and all will go well.
