I have a 2 stroke scoot that is stamped 1E40qmb, but upon researching a little I found out that it is actually a D1e40qmb. The issue that I am having with this thing is that it'll start up and idle great on the first kick, but if i try to go up any grade of hill it just bogs out and will die? I know alot about 4t scoots but am lost when it comes to 2ts. Any help or advise here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Could be a multitude of things. But most likely I'd say its a carb tune. There is an air adjustment screw on the carb. Try turning it inward a 1/4 turn. It will look like an inset screw with a flat head adjustment..usually. Take a look at the plug too. What's the color? Also, is everything stock? Check for air leaks along the intake manifold by using a spray bottle with very little soap and water. Look for bubbles. Or use carb cleaner. Listen for engine idle increase. Why do you think its not a 1e40?

It's most definitely a d1e40. All the parts I have looked up have matched and confirmed. The carb has been THOROUGHLY cleaned and looks brand new now. The plug was black, but cleaned and re-gapped it. I will check for air leaks when I get home. Its a verucci challenger 3m. Anyone know about the auto mixer that's on the back wheel for these? Is the any way to bypass it and just make it pre-mix?

take the gear that drives the automixer out, replace the cover over the gear and seal, or just cap the opening. then remove all the oil lines, tank, and plug the inlet on the carburetor. then premix. Also, take the scoot out on a flatland ride if you can and do a plug chop and let us know how that looks. Did you notice a name on the carburetor when you tore it down? There are some pretty good carb specific tuning manuals on google if you search around a little bit. They all give you a good base tune and you can work it from there

Turn the Air screw in until it stops and back off 1/4 to a 1/2 turn, mine is between the two and it runs great, the sweet spot is in there you just have to find it.

What about the cvt case don't I have to keep fluid in there?

No the only fluid contained in the tranny is the rear gear oil which wouldn't hurt to change out...

If your plug is Black with soot it is running rich and it is not making any power. on that Carb which has an Air Ratio Screw you need more air coming in to Lean it out some. Lefty

Ok and on this scoot it does indeed take 80-90 for the trans, this is a chain driven scoot and has a wet trans, not a dry one like the cvt belt driven scoots. On the plug, I have leaned it all the way out practically, still no power, I'll mess with it more when I get off work today. I can't find any repair manuals for these engines at least not the correct ones. All the manuals I find have only the dry cvt scoot motors. I now have three of these scoots all the same style(friend got tired of messin with em) and would like to get em going and out of my shop. Thanks for all the help so far guys!

I had 2 of these as well and if cold, acceleration is decent but once they warm up you have to "Fred Flintstone" them with your feet to get them going. A hill is a deathtrap if you're not already moving. I think it's just the nature of the beast with these chain drive types but Brent suggested putting stiffer springs in the clutch.

I believe I have the same exact situation, in fact I have a d1e41qmb but marked d1pe40qmb. THE BIG QUESTION: If you have a scooter with this "error", Does the exhaust port exit the engine in the rear, right in front of rear tire? I would like to chat!
