Ok so most people are interested in removing their charcoal canisters. I took my wife's scooter apart to troubleshoot staring problems. Now that I am to the point of reassembling everything I can't figure out how it was hooked up before. The scooter is a 2006 Baron 150-R Retro with a GY6 engine. The canister is installed in the storage compartment under the seat and is clearly an add on. The hold that the hoses come up through was clearly quickly drilled with a hole saw. Anyway, its a small circular canister about 3" in diameter and 2" tall. There are two brass tee fittings connected to the bottom of it. One of the tee adapters only extends into the canister about 1/4". The other canister has both of has a standoff that inside the canister almost all the way to the top. I have 4 hoses that I could hook up and 3 places to hook them. 1. Vent from fuel tank, clearly goes somewhere on the canister 2. A hose that goes to the intake manifold 3. A hose that comes from the carb bowl drain (though the drain screw was all the way in so I assume this just hangs off the side of the scooter) 4. A hose from the carb vent tube, probably no emissions here The 4th is different than what is normally on a carb like this. Normally its just a short tube that bends downward. www.scootusa.com/152QMI_carb/connections-01.jpgSee the small tube to the left of the automatic choke (the big black connector looking thing on the right.) Thanks in advance, -Alan

Ok very simple, leave the canister crap off you don't need it they just cause more trouble than they are worth. 1. Vent from the Fuel Tank-put a FUel Filter on the end of it and tie it up somewhere out of the way. 2. The hose that goes to the INTAKE MANIFOLD is your Vacumm - You need that. A. you need a "T" or a "Y" connector. b. The VACUMM hose connected to the INTAKE MANIFOLD nipple goes to the Bottom of the "Y" Connector or the Bottom of the "T". Then another hose From the Connector goes to your PETCOCK or FUEL PUMP whichever one you have. Then the Hose comeing from the Carb by the Throttle goes to the other OPEN NIPPLE on the "T" or "Y" connector. C. then connect the Fuel Line to the Carb which is coming from your Fuel Filter and from the PETCOCK or FUEL PUMP. The Bent hose on the side of the Carb is a Vent and Air intake hose that stays as is. The Hose at the BOttom of the Bowl is a Drain hose and it just hangs out. Lefty

I 2nd Lefty. If you happen to overfill your tank and the charcoal canister gets soaked, your scooter may not start or run like crap.

Why put that back on.. 90% of people want to remove it! Scooters generally run better without those 'extras'

I 2nd Lefty. If you happen to overfill your tank and the charcoal canister gets soaked, your scooter may not start or run like crap. and this can never happen. first of all, the tank vent is situated where it will only collect air and there is a check valve.

Ok! Impossible, whatever you say, boss.

Most pollution devices DO effect engine performance in a negative way...

Other than the flood scenario, how does a charcoal canister negatively affect engine performance? It's taking fumes from the gas tank and allowing them into the intake air.
I can see a situation where fuel COULD enter the vent line. It would take some rough riding to splash it up there in my scooter. It's at least an inch above the fill hole.

I didn't say charcoal canister... I said pollution devices.... PAIR system, EGR valves, Air injectors etc etc etc...
All negative...all crap...

Jonglauser, I guess you could test with your fuel cap off and do a couple of sharp accelerating and braking maneuvers, see how much gas slops out.....that can't possibly get that high. Then too there are a few posts that go...I just fueled up and it ran like crap, barely made it home. 3 days later it starts running better with nothing done to it. Just dried out. It's not worth arguing over. I mentioned a potential problem and was told it was impossible. Good enough for me.

Lefty sorry for bringing this tread back to life, but thanks edfr for posting this cause it helped me bypass the charcoal canister. how ever I did just plug the vent line up coming from the top of the gas tank instead of putting filter on it, and its working good so far with no bogging probs. also all I had to do was unplug the line going from the canister to the T fitting and plug that hole on the fitting, all the other stuff was already pluged up the way you state so that was cool. Peace
