If you didn't catch my original thread, this is a Dayang DY50QT that I got out of a barn for $25. A few here suggested that it would cost more in parts than it's worth to fix it, but I went ahead anyway. I'm hoping to break even (not counting my labor), but the education I got on fixing these up is worth any difference.
Original views, after I had the engine out and the plastic off:
Here's with all the plastic off, engine installed and wiring harness completed. It starts at this point:
Here's the speedometer with a busted lens. I couldn't find a replacement, so I cut off the top and cut a new one out of Lexan:
The cover was missing. I found this black chrome one on Ebay with kick start assembly included for $23 shipped because it was blemished. (see the spot right above the kick start shank)
Here's a few 'in progress' pics. Krylon fusion for plastic on all the black pieces made them look almost new. I spent the extra for performance coil and CDI, and added a blade fuse holder:
Front view with the body pieces painted blue metal flake and clear coated:
Side views before seat install:
This is the front edge of my seat tub. Anybody know what those 2 hex shaped holes are for? Am I missing a vital piece?:
With the seat tub in place, the choke is pressing against the bottom of it. Is this a problem?
I'm considering leaving the chrome off. It's got some dings and I think I like the appearance better without. Any opinions?
Without chrome, with chrome, without chrome plus trunk, and with chrome plus trunk:
Front view with chrome on it
Now that I've made it all pretty again, why does this scooter look so unhappy?
And I know someone's going to ask how it runs. You probably noticed there's no air filter box. (UPS Monday) So wide open intake it gets about 10mph and bogs down. A trip to the board told me it was running way to lean that way. So I taped off half the intake hose opening and got 22mph. I'll report back after I get the air filter installed and tune the carb with it in place.
