i rescued a kymco from the back of a garage that was not used and only has about 100 miles on it. it is a 2000 ish and is baby blue. the thing is i cant figure out why it doesnt have spark. it is getting fuel and has great compressing. i have narrowed it down to two things stator and handlebar switch.
any other ideas would be great

How did you narrow it down? Have a spare cdi ? coil ? Did you replace the plug? need more info.

Hmmmm, what plug is in there? Did you change the fuel filter? Is the vacuum pump supplying enough fuel? If you look at the plug after running the motor for a bit, does the plug show signs of running to rich or lean? Could the exhaust be clogged somewhat? Did you check for vacuum hose or gasket leaks? Is the flow of oil getting to the motor properly? Bad gas? Seized brake? Sliding weights, are they stuck? Tom

if it sat around since 2000 with a 100 miles on the odometer, I would suspect the CVT drive belt has hardened up and is slipping badly. Also check the rear pulley to ensure it isn't stuck. You should be able to pull the outer pulley half away from the belt. Also make sure the weights in the variator haven't slipped or stuck on you. Did they stick in the correct weights for this size engine?

well the belt was replaced as soon as i got it and that did not do it. i redid the whole fuel system with the right stuff and now it wont start at all

Just a thought, recheck the pepcock valve & its connections. Make sure the fuel is flowing the right way through the fuel filter. Also, remove the air filter and give it a little starting fluid into the air intake and see if it starts up. If it does start the carb jets are possibly clogged again or the mixture needs adjustment. Double check there is spark. Is there a switch on the kick stand that prevents it from starting with it down? (Note: my ZX-50 does not have one, however my Xciting does) Tom

Here is an idea, I am not sure if you are working on the People 50 2 stroke that is in your list, but if so go and open up this link it contains the service manual for that scooter, even though the titles and URL are in Italian, the manual is printed in English: preview.tinyurl.com/2ssb3vInside the zip file look for chapter 11, it has all of the info on the carb. Hope that this does help you out some more. Tom

Dirty carb. He needs to take it off and to a shop. He might want to take a look in the fuel tank while he is at it.

Did you replace the fuel lines? If it sits for a while there could be getting dryrot (especially if sitting) and causing leaks that can't be pinpointed. I would also check and or replace the intake manifold gasket, a lot of this rubber is "cheap" in my opinion and could be the source of your problems.
Just a suggestion, all I got. Oh and when you say the carb is fine are you sure? Did you clean it or have someone knowledgable do it? If you have a clogged jet you would also experience the symptoms you are describing.

i cleaned out the carb using a air compresser but i will check the intake out and see what the rubber looks like. i have a stainless steel intake that will fit the bike so might as well change the whole thing.

I don't think air alone will clean up a clogged jet. The jet needs to come out and be checked for varnish or other particles. Worse case is the carb gets broken down and put into a bath of carb cleaner.

Sounds bad? NOPE!! We all love to hear you are enjoying the scooter.
BTW, was it a clogged jet, or clogged pipe? You said you drilled the pipe out, but what was it that got your scooter running?
