I am debating whether to go with an 80cc big bore kit or 80cc standard kit..this seems to be the best bang for the buck modificaton, or could I get a = amount of power gain with de-restricting(air filter, air box, carb re jet/replacement,exhaust upgrade, etc..). I am concerned with the engine casing handling the extra load with the 80cc kit, and I have heard changing the fuel and air ratios can be a nightmare... All help and suggestions, including experience with this engine on a Fly/Zhen 50cc..

I just happen to know a guy in Nashville that sells Fly scoots. Well they just went belly up last month. Shoot him an e-mail. He modifies them. www.reddogscooters.com/Personally I think the bottom end, crankshaft, can take it. When you change things like the displacement or the air flow, your going to have to re-jet your carb. Think of it as a learning experience. RD

An 80cc kit will definitely give you the most bang for the buck. Your gonna have to change the fuel and air ratios with the kit anyway, there's no way around that, so you might as well go with the kit.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to buy the best 80cc kit ? There are several shops and many parts wholesellers out there(Scootertronics,Ecobike USA,Scooter Parts Place, etc..)??

I ride an '08 Il Bello that has been modified. All of my upgrades are posted in my signature, and except for the exhaust, I got everything from Enviromoto.

Also, I wanted to emphasize upgrading the variator and belt (I use a gate's powerlink). When I first installed the big bore kit, the top speed didn't change at all. Once I upgraded to a better variator, I noticed big improvements.
Hope this helps.

BBK for better power. Aramid Belt (e.g. Bando) to handle the power Performance variator to make use of the power There are several good kit suppliers such as Enviromoto, ScrappyDog, Rapid Repair, Parts for Scooters... You can check out the dealers section of this site for public comments about the various dealers. Remember when choosing a BBK, anything larger than a 72cc kit requires a matching big block head. The reason is using the stock head on a true* 80cc or larger kit can raise compression to unsafe levels; the big block heads have a larger combustion chamber to keep compression under 11:1. This needs to be figured into the cost of a kit. The better kits include the head with the kit, and are of course more expensive because of it. The "cheaper" kits have you order the head separately, have your calculator handy. It's unfortunately not uncommon practice to label at 72cc kit as 80 or an 80-83cc kit as a 100. Pay attention to the bore diameter. 47mm = 72cc 50mm = 80cc 51mm = 83cc 53mm = 90cc

Before you buy any parts from Scootertronics you may want to check out the dealer section first.. They have a lot of complaints about them. I can assure you that they are very true. I have had first hand dealing with them.
