I have a Jonway YY250T, which I think has a cloned Helix engine and cloned Reflex body parts. I purchased it used from a tow yard with 900 miles on it.

I have several questions and issues, so I will try to lay them out in terms of importance and include videos and pictures.

1. Battery, voltage, and charging
Facts: The day I bought the scooter the battery did not work, so I purchased a new one. I put the H2O in it, but didn't charge it over night. The scooter cranked perfectly for about 2 weeks, but one day it just lost cranking power. I jumped it, blew a fuse, replaced the fuse, and charged it fully. It has cranked ever since, but it sometimes takes 10 seconds to start.

Question 1a: Is my charging system working?
Cold/Stopped: 12.4v
After cranking and idling 20 seconds: 12.9v
4000 RPM: 13.1v
Turn signal: Alternates between 13.0v and 12.9v

Question 1b: I want to change my bulbs to LEDs. Which ones should I get?
It is obvious that even the turn signals have a significant draw. I want to switch out the tail lights and turn signals to LED lights. Which type, number, and brand should I get? Where should I buy them if I live on the West coast?

Question 1c: Can I add an amplifier and stereo?

Question 1d: Can my bike handle HID's, and if so which ones should I buy and from what store?

2. Maintenance
Facts: I have already changed the engine oil and the gear box oil. I checked the filter that is above the CVT (it doesn't look like the same filter I see when searching for Helix air filters), and it looks clean. I have to assume that the dip sh!t who owned the bike before me did no maintenance.

Question 2a: THe brakes squeak a little. What can I do to decrease that?

Question 2b: I get an intermittent squeeking that comes from teh front wheel when going slow. What might that be?

Question 2c: What other maintenance should I do now?

3. Upgrades
I already ordered a Givi Tall windscreen, but have yet to recieve it. THe stock shield is a joke and puts all the air right on my face.
I am interested in comfort and reliability only. This is my only vehicle, and I am working 75-80 hours/ week, so I dont have much time to fiddle with problems.

Any recommended upgrades to increase reliability and comfort?

I jumped on this thread specifically to post the link that damin did, but it looks like he beat me to it

At any rate, follow the instructions in that thread, especially the RR upgrade from OMP.

Side note- I could swear your video was made by me. Same scooter, same tests I ran (and same results), same multimeter from Harbor Freight

The voltages you get are about right. If you have a charging port on it on the front of the seat pedestal you feel the need to use it to keep the battery at absolutely full charge you won't hurt anything.

A question about the new battery. You put water in it? Do you mean the sulphuric acid electrolyte that should have come with it? Since it is working I presume so.

You stated you couldn't be bothered to wait a few hours to give the battery an initial slow charge before you started to use it.

Before you start chasing the charging system I suggest you take the battery and have it checked out with a load test. You may have ruined the battery and it may be unable to take a full charge.

When you jump the scooter, make sure the vehicle you are jumping from is not running. You can blow the regulator that way.

The scooter should start almost instantly at any motor temperature in any weather. A ten second cranking indicates something is wrong. Are you leaving the throttle closed when you crank it? You should if you aren't.

I am a new scooter owner with a charging issue also. I have a 2008 massimo sl250-22 with the yy250t engine that is not charging the battery. I have checked voltage on the red wire coming out of the regulator and have 14.2 volts, but only battery voltage across the battery regardless of the rpm. My charging port has apron 12.9 V when plugged in. What will fix this issue?
