"What a stupid I am." - Roberto De Vicenzo - Argentinian Golfer, spoken after loosing the 1968 Master's Tournament for signing his score card with an incorrect score on it.
So Dawgs and Dawgettes I finally decided to order a set of saddle bags. I know many of you have made your own, fabricated all sorts of stuff, more power too you but I was simply not in the mood to do the work required. I scoured the internet and end up back at Leatherup.com, whom I have had good experience with in the past. So I ordered and waited. Prompt shipping as always.
Last weekend I installed them. Decided to put the strap that connects the bags under my seat and close the seat over it to help keep them in place. Got them positioned, everything was great, they looked pretty good.
Took a test ride. At WOT the scooter was acting like it was starving for fuel. Old top speed minus the bags about 55+mph, new top speed 45mph! I knew I had problems. My mind starts reeling on the way home about all the things that could have possibly happened.
I get home shut down the scooter and opened the seat. What did I immediately realize? I had put the fat, thick, black "pleather" strap right across the top of the evaporative canister for the fuel system. When I sat down on the seat, it got pressed down and sealed tight. "What a stupid I am." I caused my scooter to act like I had overfilled the tank simply by trying to increase the luggage capacity. Back to the drawing board on my mounting.
Thought you dawgs might appreciate this cautionary tale of unintended consequences.
