Aloha I have a 09 adly 50cc 2-stroke thunderbike,i would like to get some advise on how to get more power up hills. I have changed the weights in the Variator, put a unrestricted cdi unit on, changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. iam very happy with the overall preformance as i can get 40-42 mph top speed with little effort, but would like more up hill speed as there are alot of hill here in hawaii. any help would be great!

Increase the displacement with a big bore kit.

you could try a heavier contra spring in the clutch

Check ValleyScooterParts.com talk to john dikov (scootersus.com), tell him what scoot you have, he'll advise you
I plan on upgrading my new 2010 Znen Motorino 50cc next summer. If that doesn't solve my same problem, then I'll switch engines to a 150cc, on the advice of a few guru's here. Still cheaper (about $400) than a new scoot. they sell an upgrade kit: 72cc upgrade kit for 4 stroke 139QMB engine
Item# 80ccupgradekit $99.00
Product Description MAKE YOUR 50CC 4 STROKE SCOOTER PERFORM LIKE A MUCH BIGGER BIKE! This kit is used for the GY6 4 stroke engines and contains the head, cylinder, piston, rings, wrist pin, gaskets and clips. Get your 50cc scooter up to 50 mph! Available in 50cc or 72cc size.

Savy09, Upgrade Includes: Racing Air Filter High Performance Spark Plug Racing Vacuum Hoses Racing Fuel Line Hoses No Rev. Limit CDI
The above will not get you what you are looking for. Racing Spark Plug? Racing Vacuum Hoses? Racing Fuel Line Hoses? That is a bunch of crap, the only thing and you may already have one on yours is No Rev Limit CDI, if your revs are high you don't need that as well. Beside you don't want your Revs to be really high anyway, that shortens the life of the engine. If your scoot is running good and from what you say it is, you are looking to maintain better speed on the hills. Heavier Contra Spring so you can keep the Rpms up while climbing like CTPGS said will help. Alleyoop

aloha thanks for the replies!flat out my scooter its about 7500 rpm with ideal conditions -no wind, hills ect. Stock befor the cdi upgrade was 6500 rpms up hill or down. When pulling a hill i can get between 6000-6500 rpm and a speed of about 25-28 mph.sounds like the contra spring is the way to go? do high flow air filters and exhaust pipes really work and are they worth the money? thanks for all the help!! PS: iam not looking to break any speed records here just would like to go up the hills at 30-35 and not be a hazard to other drivers.

I gotta go with Al on this one....A 1500RPM contra spring just may do the trick for getting up those hills better BUT I still recommend an engine upgrade or a BBK. I've found that my 80cc does just fine and honestly, it'll hold about 30-35MPH going up an average grade. You may also look into slightly lighter weights as well, unless you're revving too high as it is. In that case you may just have to go with the spring.

my scoot holds 35+ uphill easy 49cc displacement but highly modified stock.
i dont think all that "racing" stuff is going to help you at all..... it's a big waste of money! and a scam
like "health bracelets" that give you power and focus...
and how the hell is racing stuff supposed to make your engine last longer?
if anything racing would cause your engine to blow out faster then require a rebuild...

Really, for a 2T, the OP's scoot should be faster than that. Possibly the piston and cylinder is badly worn, a BBK would fix that and more. You do want to watch the ''race'' parts, most are useless at best. I've just found a dyno graph for the scoot I've got. A 70cc Malossi kit correctly jetted with a performance exhaust will kick out over 20HP! That's more than most cheap 250cc 4T's.

We have a car out the back less than a year old that produces a mere 48BHP. If you ask it to go above 60 it gives you a look. Something like ''are you having a laugh!''. When I'm all tuned up, I'm having a race

I was not the author of that info and only offered them as sources for parts! lampk still can't tell us what motor he has in his scoot. My interest is that I have the same problem with up hills, my motor is a 50cc 4 stroke 139QMB GY6(restricted) --- savy09

A secret to get more power up hills is duck your head down and your whole body down , you will fly up the hills Especially with the rope connected to your friends supercharged mustang

On a 50cc 4 stroke your Mods, including even the BBKs, work best in concert with the rest of your tuning upgrades. Performing one modification almost always without exception leads to another, and so forth, in order to get the most overall out of all of them, for your scoot. Probably the same for the most part with 2T's as well. Just less to do overall.

Aloha I was told it was the same engine as a jog 50, heres the update so far,i changed out the contra spring to a 1500rpm,but lost to end speed to 38mph,still only getting top rpm at 7500,i tried changing the weights from the 5g to the 7g ,it has slower of the bottom and did not pick up top end. i also put on a preformace Variator but still realy dont knotice any more power?any ideas to what waights i should try? or combo of some different weights as i was told you can mix the weights ie 3 5g 38g.should i be looking into exhaust and could this be holding me up? thanks

exhaust isnt going to do much for you unless you go 72cc with it.i say this cause i tried everything i knew to try to make it quicker.and in the end"there is no replacement for displacement".once i did the bbk.man you wouldnt believe the torque and top end.a constant acceleration as long as you hold the gas.anticipation is a bad thing when you have a scoot and want more out of it but at a standstill with what you can do.so you started tuning the trans.and thats a good thing.look at it this way, when you do go bigger on the displacement half the trans work is done already.keep it safe:)
