Thanks a ton, bigJ. Sorry for using the incorrect term. This answers all my questions. You guys are the bomb! (Without you all, I'd likely be putting a bomb in this scooter and happily blowing it to pieces - LOL! But hey, we do love to tinker, don't we?)

A bone goes to Rubicontx for the great instructions. I spent yesterday afternoon adjusting the valve lash on my Aeolus 300 because it'd been stuttering and stalling when hot. I test drove it today for 30 minutes and she ran smoothly with no loss of power. Unfortunately, while reassembling the monster I busted the seat latch release linkage. There's a little junction box under the dash where the single cable from the key switch connects to the dual cables that run to the two seat releases. The pull cable popped loose. It's done that once before and I reassembled it, but now it does it on every pull. It's sh!t. I guess I finally get to introduce myself to the Sunright man in Suwanee (right up the road from me) and price one of those bad boys. Then I can start riding it to work again! I'm excited to do so, since it's running better than it has in ages.

I meant to say "it's shot."

Update: I rigged the seat latch release by crimping a split washer around the head of the main pull cable. It's big enough not to slip through the slot in the plastic housing. We'll see how long it holds... at least I'm ready to ride to work tomorrow morning!

;D Awesome instructions! Just finished it yesterday and have been riding my scooter for over an hour since. It's not stalling anymore and runs like it's brand new. Seems to have a little more power too. Thanks for the instructions. Took me about 6hrs and was well worth it. I changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter while I was at it and now it runs great! Couldn't be happier. The timing part was a little tricky. Moves quite a bit when turning the bolt. Took a little bit to get it just right.

I am new to this site and man am i glad i found it. This post on the adjustment of valves was a great big help thanks for the post. I did take a couple of short cuts however with the suggestion of another poster. i cut a whole in the bottom of the battery compartment and worked well took a little longer to do the adjustment but saved time over all. One other thing i adjusted the intake and exhaust at 06 also suggested by another grateful poster and when i took it for a test ride it was like riding a race horse could not hold it back wanted to run and run. Thanks again for the the great advise rubicontx

Thanks for this post. I read it awhile ago and knew I need to do a valve adjustment but just couldn't get myself motivated enough to do it. I finally dove in and did it. Took me 6 hours (spent a lot of time labeling screws) but my scoot runs better than when it was new. I really appreciate the time you took to make this post. It used to die at red lights, hard to start in the cold, and putter when accelerating from a stop. NO MORE!!!! Also, anyone that has trouble with the seat lock cable, you gotta turn the whole damn thing around and slip it out. That was about a 30 min ordeal for me. This video also helped me a bit, it has you remove the rear shock bolts. That helped a lot with the exhaust valve. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4PAshnNCoE

Thanks for this post it helped me easily adjust my valves .. On my Roketa MC-54 250B. Also I found that using a crook necked box wrench allowed me to remove the third bolt that was blocked by the gas tank easily.
I used the following measurements for my Linhai 257 CC engine (Linhai 257cc/clone) it's .004 for intake and .004-.006 for exhaust.

I have a Roketa MC-54-250b and I am starting the process of adjusting the valves. I am having trouble taking off the cover to the timing chain and sprocket after removing the two screws holding it on. Has anyone else had this trouble? What's a good way to get the off without breaking anything?

I got the cover off of the timing chain. Just had to make sure to pull it out straight and wiggle it because it’s in there really tight.
However, once I took the cover of to the clutch area in order to turn the engine easier, the gasket ripped in half.
Do I need to replace the gasket before I am all ready to go, or is this gasket only necessary to provide separation between metal?

I finished adjusting my valves. Intake at .004" and exhaust at .006". It ran brilliantly for about an hour and then back to the same old news of stalling and only getting half the power. Is it possible that it knocked itself back out of adjustment?

Yes, it is a Honda clone engine. And probably just as good as a Honda if you didn't get a Chinese lemon (bad day at the factory). I set my valves at .008 for both exhaust and intake. Those who know anything about meassurment know theres just a slight diffference between .008 and the factory settings of .004 and .006. Just makes it have a little sewing machine sound . It is a JCL MP 250A with a Linhia 257cc. I wont have to adjust the valves again for twice the recommended time now. Scoot runs great and puts out good power. I was advised to do the valves this way by Jeff at Mudville Scooter and small engine repair. He says hes done 50 Linhias like this and not a one has had any problems, and I believe him. BTW, Glad to be here. New dawg

Zfjelstad, I doubt the valves went back to where they were. Are you sure something else isn't brewing like your gas is getting low or a fuel blockage of some sort ? Don't know about the clutch gasket. I doubt it will hurt anything if it is a dry area.
