At 500 miles, I changed oil again. There were not very much metal particles but still I could see them. This time, I used Valvoline Full synthetic 5W30 for over 75000mi I bought for $2 from Walmart. Oil strainer also had a few pieces of very small metal things. I didn't bother to change transmission fluid. It seems like no one want to buy oil filters I'm selling. I have oil filters that will cover 122,500 miles. I hope my scoot last that long. LOL. I'm good for another two oil changes on filters. When my local Polaris dealer had their 'moving' sale I bought 4.

Okay, iridium plug is installed, and bike starts/runs fine. Seems to be idling a little lower now. We'll see if mileage is any better in awhile. Old plug was carboned some, but still gapped within specs & looked fair. Plug change at 4,281 miles.
Thanks for the idea, Harry!

perhaps you need to go to a hotter plug if there was carbon on it. Perhaps the alcohol they put in you fuel causes it, as alcohol tends to lower the combustion temperatures from what I've learned.

Welcome hakuin.
kiwi..my plug was running real dark...reading 'rich'...which should be impossible with EFI. The tech manual specifies 3 plugs..hotter,cooler and 'standard'. 7 is hotter, 8 is standard, 9 is cooler.
I'm thinking it's the 10% ethanol which does run cooler as well.

Harry-did you notice a marked improvement in engine performance going to the iridium plug? I just got back from a quick errand (10 miles) and I noticed that the same portion of straight road I travel every day which used to take 6,000 rpm to maintain 55 mph registered only took alittle over 5,000 rpms this trip!! Seems a whole lot smoother on accelerating to highway speeds too. Maybe it's my imagination, but so far, it's GOOD!

Harry-did you notice a marked improvement in engine performance going to the iridium plug? Unfortunately I was trying to get my head around stalling when pulling away from a stop sign when the temp gauge was on the 3rd bar problem at the time. Seemed to be some improvement in idling. In the end I just started setting the idle speed when the temp gauge was on the 3rd bar.

"Unfortunately I was trying to get my head around stalling when pulling away from a stop sign when the temp gauge was on the 3rd bar problem at the time" Yeah, that would make it difficult to discern a diffierence...
HAPPY THANKSGIVING fellow Dawgs!!

The '8' looked between picture #5 and picture #7 on "Dan's Spark Plug Chart". The '7' plugs seems to stay between picture #14 and #17 on Dans spark plug chart. www.dansmc.com/spark_plugs/spark_plugs_catalog.htmlOf course in the US there are dozens of different regional gasoline blends.

Another thing to perhaps consider. On my SYM Citycom the radiator is very big for the size of the scoot's engine. My guess is it is to cater for markets with very warm temperatures. Here in NZ we don't get those very hot temperatures. Well I found my scoot did not heat up on my rides as the radiator cooled the engine to much. This caused the EFI to run the scoot on the "choke setting". I noticed this by watching the rev's. Since I taped up part of the radiator to decrease the exposed surface area the scoots heats up quicker and my fuel consumption improved. Perhaps your scoot has the same "problem" especially as you are getting into the colder months now.

;D Just posted 57.4 mpg on the last tank of gas! Much improved engine performance going to that iridium plug.
The 54.4mpg in the fuelly window is my current average mpg.

Great. Mine is getting lower and lower. Mine makes weird vibration when accelerating and I think pulley or something in that is wrong and makes mpg lower. I need to check if there is any Hyosung dealer nearby.

Check the bolts holding the exhaust on. I had a vibration that got worse and worse...until I discovered one exhaust bolt missing and another so loose I could turn it with my fingers. Still got a bit of vibration around 3000 RPM...but that's the clutch complaining.

Thanks. I should have checked the bolts. I left to OKC immediately after I posted above and couldn't see your post. My scooter is in Hyosung dealer in Oklahoma city already. hope they fix it.

One of my exhaust support-bolts had jumped-ship sometime over the past couple weeks. Noticed a slight rattle going over small bumps, and had to replace an upper muffler bolt.

I got my scooter back from the scooter shop and the service person told me that nothing's wrong with it. Then, he asked me if I wanted the periodic maintenance which costs $145ish. I asked him if they adjust the valve and he said there is no need to check valve until 16k miles. I asked him what do you do when you do periodic maintenance. He said oil change, check and tighten bolts and nuts and see everything is OK. I said "so.. there is no problem at all with my scooter including the vibration I complained?" He goes, "Nothing's wrong with your scooter. It rides like any other Hyosung MS3 and everything is tightened." Anyways, I got it back and it feels the same as before. I guess I was too sensitive about vibration. People there are really nice except the soliciting of unnecessary work. I understand that business is for profit, but I said no to the periodic maintenance.
I received CR7EIX the other day and have been waiting for the weather gets warm. I don't have a garage and it's been low 30s these days.

Anyways, I got it back and it feels the same as before. I guess I was too sensitive about vibration. Glad your bike is good to go. I have some clutch shudder. Specs say the initial engagement of the clutch should occur between 1800 and 2400 RPM and lock up(the point where it no longer slips) between 2300 and 2900 RPM. Quite a bit of vibration in that RPM range.

Thanks. Yes, that must be it.
I changed spark plug to 7IEX and it feels a little better. It sometimes hesitate to rev up from idling at the stop sign but I feel it less now.
The OEM plug I took out was kind of black oily. I guess it was too rich.

banana,
Isn't EFI suppose to auto adjust the fuel/air ratio. Did you try a hotter plug? 145$ for oil change is really expensive.

Yes it is supposed to. I think the problem is similar to what kiwiscoot explained above. I live in a very small town in which my scooter doesn't get warm enough unless I warm it up before ride. 7IEX is the hotter plug I put a few days ago and it feels a little smoother.

Took the scoot to & from work today. A short trip of 4 miles each way. The roads were clear, and the temp was around 20 degrees. The condensation froze on the inside of my helmet face-screen. I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it in future winter days...

30 deg temps today were much more ride-worthy...not too bad at all. Rain-X on the inside of the face shield took care of the frozen view issue. Snow coming now, so scoot may be hibernating for awhile.

The last time I rode was 11/29. 31 degrees right now, more snow. The only thing with 2 wheels that I'm running lately is the snow blower! 2 days ago I was out blowing and it was so bitter (17 degrees, -2 with the wind) that I was tempted to try wearing the full face but figured it would just fog up. Realistically - 2 1/2 to 3 months to go to first ride.

About same here in Stillwater. Roads are covered with snow. I bought solar battery charger for my scooter and motorcycle. works like a charm.

Realistically - 2 1/2 to 3 months to go to first ride. There is always a "January Thaw". Might only last a few days...but it'll be an opportunity to get my scooting fix. I am not an addict ;D
