I change the oil and gear oil every 1,000 miles and the gear oil is always milky in color, like there's water in it.How can there be water in it?I have 3,000 miles on it.I just serviced it,put about 30 miles on it and when I checked the gear oil it's already milky white looking.I have been using Castrol 10W-30W motor oil for the gear oil. Anybody have this same problem?I'm about to shut it down for the winter.

it's supposed to have gear oil in it, not motor oil. I use 80W90 in mine. The motor oil is supposed to be 15W40 according to the plate right above the dip stick and the gear oil is supposed to be 80W90 according to the plate right by where you add it in the gear box too.

Smorks right use the gear oil. Having said this my gear oil came out milky looking about the first 3 times I changed it, after that it was ok. I think this is just the Chinese fluid in there finally getting all flushed out. Allen

Motor Oil is adequate. The Tech manual for the Honda Silverwing specifies 10w30 Motor Oil. The technical name for "Gear Oil" is Hypoid Gear Oil...no Hypoid gears in scooters. I'm not familier with the 250 CF Moto Engine...but many engines have a vent hose from the gear box to the air box. If you get condensation/water in the airbox..then it is possible it will run into the gear box. In this picture from CF Moto there is indeed a vent hose from the gearbox.

Yes no doubt but the gears in this and the 257cc linhai only lubricate by the oil they pick up as they run through the oil itself and when cold 10W oil is just that 10W and when it warms it is 30W and just that no more!
I use 75W/90W and when cold it's exactly what is says and just common sense dictates some times when it says motor oil it's for the motor, gear oil, it's well for gears!
Some will argue that motor oil at certain weights is close to the same as weights of gear oil and my reply to that is "close only counts on Atom Bombs and hand grenades" LOL
If motor oil and gear oil are about the same then why different oils, just throw gear oil in everything including the motor. Nope that's why different strokes for different folks and besides the manuals well they are let's just say Chinglish! LOL
BTW I read an article a good while back stating that the first Atom Bomb was actually off target and if it had been right on then nothing would have walked away. Just goes to show you that you need to be more than close even with an atom bomb! JRR

I'm with jr on this one, My Tank manual calls for 15W/40w, but I replaced with the 90 weight gear oil.
