Well, after lots of stuffing around (learning) 8 pole stators, voltage regulators, magic smoke etc, I decided to cut to the chase and do a full electrics upgrade. Diagram attached is a mod from gy6rocket's good research you can find here scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=8929&page=1 read from post 41 onwards (he had some magic smoke earlier on) Parts: * New Battery * 11 Pole stator * Flywheel (re-use) *7 wire Voltage regulator * 4 wire voltage regulator (delete) * 8 Pole Stator (delete) You can read about the remove, refit of the flywheel / stator elsewhere, pick this up with the Voltage regulator install. I didn’t want to run new cabling to the front of the bike, so I decided to mount the regulator back under the seat, near the stator cabling. This freed up the white and the yellow cables in the loom that ran from the old stator connector to the deleted voltage regulator. The yellow feeds the enricher, and the white carries the 12V+ ignition feed. I also wanted to kill the ‘always on’ headlights while starting so I took the feed from the enricher via a relay to switch the lights on. Results: Battery charging now between 13.8V – 15V, this seems high so I am going to fit bigger headlights to use some power. New Learnings – the same approach would work on a 6 wire regulator and a floating earth 8 pole Stator, in fact might work better unless you need the extra power for HID’s, subwoofers etc. Attachments:

I'd definitely upgrade the headlights.....otherwise you really aren't reaping the benefits of doing the upgrade.
I am sure someone is gonna try to chastise you for reusing the 8 magnet flywheel, but I am beginning to wonder if there really is an 11 magnet version. A couple of us bought 11 pole stators and got 8 magnet flywheels. Both of our setups have worked fine. I think the 11 magnet flywheel is a myth.

Yup, I'm the other guy running the 8 magnet flywheel with 11 pole stator and all seems well. I would say the most important piece in the upgade is a good quality 7 pin regulator.

Not sure about myth or not, but the guy in Australia I buy my parts offf said that the flywheels are the same, 3,5,8,12 pole, even the 21 pole in a 250 cc he has runs the same flywheel.
For the record there are 8 distinctly magnetic locations in these flywheels.
As they are permanent magnets maybe there is a limit to how close they can be mounted to create a good field for each pole of the stator to induce a current off. hmmm.....
The only difference I could see were more laminate (layers) in the stator, so to bolt the 11 pole stator on I needed longer bolts.
Now looking for 55w headlight bulbs to upgrade my visibility.. tips?

I'd say ditch the halogens and go for the HID's. They run cooler, require less power and put out much more light. Here in the states kits sell for not much more than a decent set of halogens.

So - good to see my diagram is getting around... askit.mainelyscooters.com/11-coil-stator-upgrade/ done this mod a few times but now don't bother with the light relay option, they would come on even as the motor turned over so I just skipped it - no problem starting anyway.

Ok, before this turns into another issue, the article on my site, the text and the photos, was created completely by Jack at another website. He gave me his explicit permission to post the article. The diagram originated elsewhere and I am investigating the source at this time. It was not created by ozooma150, nor was it created by gy6rocket.
In a previous post (which I deleted) I was merely asking ozooma150 if he would like me to take it down if it was indeed his. Since there seems to be a bit of traffic about this, I have deleted the comment and posted this in the hopes to clarify everything.
I cannot assume what he meant when ozooma150 posted "So - good to see my diagram is getting around..."
That is all I have to say about this issue.
If anyone has any copyright claims about content on my website feel free to contact me directly about it and not post on another website.

I know what he meant - that he. (me) was happy to see the diagram was getting around. Nothing more, i added to this drawing as result of my learnings and hope it is of value. I flagged my source (gy6rocket) earlier in the thread and all was done in good faith to help fellow scooter owners.
Sorry to all if people read more into it - particularly me having a go at another site - not intended at all.
Just to be clear - its just a drawing, I hope it has helped someone.
Enjoy!
