Thanks, guys. to answer Gary2gs: Original carb still on the bike. I thought the mechanic had replaced it but he just cleaned it and inspected it. I have a new one to try this weekend. Jets of 1.03 were replaced with 1.10 and then 1.12 that is still in the original carb. The key on/engine cold thing has thrown us to look at electrical. Have not put in or connected the headlamps yet. At $9 each I want to find the problem before I blow more. Tail light now blown as well. Indicates power surges some where. I will also test the components with a multimeter this weekend to check resistance, continuity, etc
I'll try the ice thing with the CDI and other components this weekend as well. Air did not cool them enough to have any effect I am wondering if it is still a carb issue and when the auto enrich valve leans the mixture the carb has blockages that then cause the failure. Auto enrich valve would probably sense the key on current as running time and shut down the extra fuel before I start the engine. As the King in the play "King and I" liked to say "Tis a puzzlement!"

Congratulations ? You now have a 2 page thread. Hope you don't need 3.

Perhaps the way this is going it will soon be 3 pages. Hope not. I do have a second thread going hoping someone can tell me where there is a resistor in the system. Replaced the carb last evening with no good results. So I have eliminated the carb and choke. I tested the voltage regulator with an ohm meter and had NO reading on the meter indicating no contiguous circuit. I now have found better instructions on what leads to test so I'll do it again along with almost every electrical component. Perhaps more than one component is bad so just replacing one and then putting the old one back is working against ourselves. That is what the mechanic did and I tried to tell him to just leave the new parts in. If not electrical, then what?

I will also test the components with a multimeter this weekend to check resistance, continuity, etc A poorly grounded or broken voltage regulator will result in feeding approx 35 volts into the AC side of your electrics when the engine is running. Which would be headlights, tail light, CDI , Coil, Enricher and high beam indicator.

Two things you should also check, a headlight/tail light burning out can be caused by 1 of 2 things. A faulty Voltage regulator or the coil. There is an exclent post somewhere about testing the coil at 50 ohm+ showing to be good but I can't remeber where it is. I have one here with the same problem and changing the coil/mag pick up worked for it.

Still trying. I have ordered the CDI, Voltage Regulator and Coil to replace all at once. I found instructions for testing each terminal of the voltage regulator with a multimeter an dI got absolutly no resistance readings from any of the terminals. Will not have a chance to try anything until after the holiday weekend because will be busy.

Trip to China for parts?

No trip to China for parts so far. All immeidately available in good ole USA. Got the parts today and relpaced all. So far new carb, volt reg, coil CDI. I thought the mechanic had tried a new stator and put the old back in when it did not solve the problem but he insists he left the new one in. I just posted a new thread about the vuel petcock. I noticed today after trying all the new parts that the fuel filter was totally empty. Perhaps a petcock problem? See my new post. At least I can take this machine apart and put it back together by now. Just cannot figure out why it won't run. Perhaps take it to China and shove it ---- well you get the idea. I will still be checking this thread if anyone has another idea. Will post if I figure out the solution.

At this point I'm at a lost. I guess you tried a shot of starting fluid after replacing all those parts. Maybe they'll start a scooter cash for clunkers program. Keep us posted of your ...... progress.

I'm back. Took some time away from the problem to concentrate on my home life. I have begun a rewire of the bike to see if there is a bad wire someplace. BIG PROJECT time wise! Only part not replaced is the starter solenoid. Would that have an effect on the electrical current to the coil or cdi? One of the mechanics still says he is 99% sure it is an electrical issue. I am ordering a new wire harness, redoing grounds and wiring in the handle bar area not replaced by the harness, and ordering a new starter solenoid. I noticed that the main power goes from the battery to the solenoid first, then to all other areas. Once I get it running I plan to sell it. Looking for a "real" motorcycle now but NOT Chinese.

I I noticed that the main power goes from the battery to the solenoid first, then to all other areas. No the main power goes from the battery to the solenoid to the starter and ends their. The secondary power comes off the this red wire on the battery...everything else is powered either off of that, the stator or the regulator.

Thanks for the info, harrywr2. The red wire is quite small for powering everything. Perhaps my rewire if I ever get it done will do the trick. I still believe that somewhere there is a bad wire or ground in the mix. I'll post again if there is any progress.

Sounds like you've been put through the ringer, sorry to hear about your difficult problem. After reading the two pages of posts, and based on what I'm reading your running lean, have you checked the float level? Fuel delivery could be and issue as well since you said the fuel filter was empty. You might want to run a straight line from your tank, (provided it's above the carb) to your fuel filter, then to the carb. Make sure the fuel lines are tight with no possible air leaks. Check your float level, you can do this off the bike, fill the fuel line keeping the carb level. Remove screws and check level inside float bowl. If it's low, you can bend the tang on the needle that shuts off the fuel so that the carb bowl has the correct amount of fuel. Try those two things and let us know what you find. Oh, check the voltage at the battery using a volt meter with the motor running. It should be 14-14.5 volts, if it's less you have voltage regulator or stator problems.
Gary
Good luck

I have a late 08 pegasus 150, they call it the 09 model. It looks exactly like yours. I have pretty much the same problem and I cannot figure it out yet. You can see my problems in forum here called 'overheating'. I am NOT happy about this problem on my scooter. It is completely NOT dependable, every time I get it up to warm operating temperature the scooter bogs down and will not accelerate. After stopping for a minute it will start fine again depending on how long I've waited it will bog down again and start to overheat while idling. NO ONE knows why this happens even though everyone has a suggestion what it might be.
mine has a new spark plug, new ignition coil, new cdi and I have completely replaced the entire fuel line and vacuum lines. In a few days I will be replacing the trigger pick up and the stator coils, which is a nightmare on this model scooter but do-able. My motor casing is open now awaiting the new parts. None of the previous things mentioned made any difference. I am not happy with my very similar scooter.

scottish1 Have you replace or checked the enricher?
It could be running very, very lean and this may be causing the overheating problem.. like a soft seize...
I doubt very much it is electrical, much more probably related to the carb...or the cooling system is not working properly...
I guess you will have lots of spare electric parts...

Sure sounds like a soft seize to me, running Lean or has anybody checked the Lubrication maybe the pump is not working and or the oil passages are clogged or plugged( a defect from the factory).
Has anyone taking the Plug out immediately when this happens that will tell a lot. Lefty

I may have been a few days early on my post above. If you read my thread called 'overheating' in the forum on 125 cc scooters etc. read my last entry. OMG YES! Check your oil screen and do an oil change! Yours is the same as my scooter and that engine casing on the right side may be shredding excess gasket material to your oil filter screen and starving your motor for oil. I am VERY interested on what you see when you do an oil change. Mine has 1000 miles now and it's been a rough past three weeks because of a verrrrry similar problem as yours. When caked onto your oil screen that gunk will not let oil through.
