If you go to a parts place I'd take the entire piston with you, the ring might not be enough information on its own. It's broken and perhaps bent.
Don't feel bad about breaking it those things are very brittle and you have to be careful when putting them in, if you have never done this before it is easy to break theses little things.
BTW, I tried to find a ring set for you on the internet, All I could find was a standard set, that won't fit for you, it ran $15.00, so use that as a reference for if you are getting a proper price for a ring set for this. You will not be able to buy just that one ring, you'll wind up buying the set for that piston.

enviro how much extra really would it cost, would i just pay the difference since you include standard shipping free or what? Medman luckily i have the complete ring and it lays completely flat and i know that there is nothing missing. would that be sufficient enough to show a shop to the point where they could compare to another one so i could get the piece right then and have my scoot back.

Might work, you can certainly give it a try. But you will be taking it apart to replace the broken one.

well i will have my car tomorrow morning and since it is a weekday there should be no reason for a shop to be open so i will be checking out my local options to deal with this.

I do not know if it is universal or not, in my area motorcycle shops seem to be closed on Mondays since they are open on Saturdays here.

i certainly hope that is not a universal thing but i guess i will find out a little later today and post my results with my area and if i was able to get anything done about it.

Yeah, traditionally Motorcycle Dealers are closed on Monday because most are open Saturday and Sunday. At least thats the way it has always been here.

Jeremy I want to order the kit and do the overnight but I also need to use to different cards to pay for it. Is there anyway for me to do that? I will be calling in just a little bit so I can hopefully have the kit over-nighted and I will get it tomorrow the 25th. Just a little side, do you work with any other carriers other than USPS, such as Fedex or UPS, just wondering since most like I would get it a little earlier in the day and direct to my door which in this case I would like to do.

From the sound bite you sent me you either have zero compression or you forgot to install the spark plug.

Not to confuse things as I am still working out the fine tuning of the carb on my 72cc upgrade. However the .38 idle jet at 144 feet above see level does seem to be a tad on the rich side. At the moment I've got the idle mixture screw turned all the way in.

just wondering when I lined up the 3 holes just as you said enviro the big hole in the cam sprocket on top and the piston being at top dead center also as you mentioned i cam to find out that the timing mark is WAY off from the little "T" next to the oil filler. What is up with that?

|
|
Post by Enviromoto on Feb 28, 2009 20:18:40 GMT -5
You have to line up the T first then install the cam

what were you mentioning about the piston being TDC then now i am confused

Post by Enviromoto on Mar 1, 2009 0:45:20 GMT -5
The problem is your timing is not set correctly. First thing you need to do is remove the rocker arm assemlby and chain tensoiner. Once you get that done you need to set your engine to top dead center (TDC) Then install the cam shaft and align the timing marks. Set your valve lash at .004" for the intake and exhaust and reinstall the chain tensioner and your done.

I havent had a chance to really check out if that worked but i do believe that it wont work anyways, it does seem that the intake? valve sticks open either due to being bent(most likely) or build up. I need to order the top end i believe is the part i need and i need it overnighted. could you set up that and put it together like we discussed on the phone the other day. just send the info to my email and i will put in the payment info by tonight so it will be on its way tomorrow and i will have it wednesday. THANKS JEREMY!
PS does anyone know what I can do about the parts I have no use for, such as a core or to be rebuilt or whatever so that I dont just throw them in the trash, I like to be as enviromentally concious about this as possible and it wouldnt hurt that I could possibly save someone some money by getting them the part they need with the exception of one little piece that keeps that from working, thanks again.

So it has been some pretty crappy weather here this last couple days so I am glad I did not overnight the part. According to the USPS tracking the part is in town and should be here in my box today. Looks like in the next day or so I should be up and running again and a bit faster at that. NOTHING else will hopefully go wrong. ::knock on wood::
