Well I finally got my new 31" windshield from Gustafsson. I installed it using the well nuts recommended by Oldkid. It is definitely a tight fit in that it has to be flexed to meet the mounting holes. It may be a little broad in shape. My mirror on the right just taps the windshield at the end of the left turn swing, and the handbrake on the left side at the end of the right turn swing. But this is not really a problem since it is at the end of the turn. It could stand to have a quarter inch shaved off on each side. I now wish I had ordered a clear windshield even though the light shade is not too dark, I switched back to the clear visor on my helmet because I was uncomfortable looking through two tints. It will still take me a while to get used to looking through and over a split of tint and no tint. I am able to see over the windshield and not feel very much wind. Other than the color it is a really nice windshield, nice thick material and kind of sharpens the image on the other side. Unless you are ued to looking through tint, I would recommend getting the clear one. It does not come with the mounting holes. I ordered the drill bit from the site and I am glad I did. Like Oldkid says, you must drill slowly and carefully, make sure of your marks before drilling. I wound up drilling one hole at a time, remounting and marking the next before continuing. Of the pictures below, the first three are of the old windshield, the next three are of the new windshield, and the last two are with me on it to get a better perspective.

Guzmanr, Thanks for your post on the 31" shield! We are getting some good feedback on these new shields for our Linhai 300s. I ordered a 27" clear last week and am waiting for its arrival. Do you have the taller, wider mirrors? Can't quite tell. I do, and am wondering about clearance. Maybe we should inform him of the issue.

ok, i read all the info on these windshield extentions that you can buy but if your handy and dont want to spend $100 + do what i did. go to the hardware store and buy a piece of clear or tinted plexiglass for what size extention you want and tape it to your windshield. then draw out the shape you want and cut it with a jig-saw and mount it with 4 s.stl bolts. total cost about $12.

Scooterollie, I do have the taller mirrors but I don't know if the clearance issue is an isolated one because of the position they sit at for me. But if we get more feedback from other users about the clearance, then I would think we need to let him know. It may be a little late for those of us who have the new shields but at least it can be corrected for future users. Oldkid stated that he is willing to cut it down at no charge if it is too tall, perhaps he will do the same if it is too wide. We would have to cover the shipping. Richard

When you say the windshield is 27" or 31", is it measured from the lowest point on the bottom and along the windshield to the top?

Mike, the original tall windscreen that was shipped with my Mainstreet was about 23 inches tall. My new 27 inch tall screen added 4 inches and is perfect for my 5' 10". The measurment is made at the center to the top center. If I measure on the bike after installation there is 26 inches from the rubber trim around the mole to the top of screen. The other inch is concealed below the mole.

Thanks oldkid, I bought the taller windshield from sunright and it's not tall enough. I will have to add a 4" piece and see if that will do the trick. If that works I'll order a 27". The wind buffeting hits me right in the face and it seems worse than with the original low windshield.

Yes, that's exactly why I bought the 27 inch. The new windscreen is much higher quaility than the one you and I had first. It's about twice as thick also. You have to drill the 6 holes, but with the correct bit and careful measurment it's not much trouble. I've posted about the installation hint's eariler. The new screen makes the bike much less noisy. You hear the sewing machine sound of the engine instead of all that wind.

My thoughts on the Gustaffson windshield I just received and installed on my Linhai 300:
The Gustaffson windshield came Fri. (10/31/08) afternoon. I worked on it Fri. night and again Sat. afternoon. It is now securely installed, thanks to advice from "Oldkid" about the larger well nuts from Lowes. The smaller O.E. ones just didn't have the holding power.
Some thoughts: *The quality is excellent. *I understand their reason for not supplying the shield pre-drilled but that fact makes installation for the novice considerably more tricky, also. *The fact that the curvature is not formed properly is a BIG issue in my mind. It makes installation much more difficult for the novice and places much more stress on the scoot's plastic parts. *Because of the curvature, the "Mole" trim piece does not fit as well as with the O.E. shield. *After installation, when looking at the shield from the seat, the top edge is not properly aligned. I plan to use a heat gun to apply heat to the top portion of the shield so I can put a little "twist" in it to square it up. Since I am somewhat anal, this really bugs me! *The 27" shield still allows wind to hit the top of my helmet - at about the top of the visor. Much better than the O.E. tall shield. I would need about a 28" shield to do the job for my height - about 5'10" (in the morning, less in the evening - LOL). As is, satisfactory for me. *I found ample clearance for the mirror arms on my tall/extended mirrors. The arms will only hit the shield if they are swung far enough forward. An easy adjustment.
I am pleased but am not certain I could whole heartedly recommend this shield unless they do something to correct the curvature issue. Wonder if they made the shape mold from the tall O.E. shield? That shield also needs to be pulled in but, since it is a thinner and more flexible plastic, it does not cause problems when doing so. I plan to call them next week to discuss the issue.

Caution - in no case should your windshield be higher than eye level !
Obvious reason - cant see through it in rain
Not-so-obvious reasons -
- A lower shield actually deflects air better any long time biker will tell you that
- Sunlight can blank out a screen while in a curve and blind you, off the road you go
Notice all motorcycles have lower than eye level shields.

Update:
Today I used my heat gun to soften the center section of my shield so I could apply a twisting action to it and re-shape it so it is "square" or now even and equidistant across the top. Not a difficult job but certainly a little scary the first time you attempt it. You do have to be very careful to not apply too much heat as you could soften the lexan too much and have a real problem on your hands!

Would anyone have any idea if Gustafsson made any changes to the windscreen to make it fit this bike a bit better, it was discussed earlier in this post and it seemed the shield did not fit easily..... just curious.
