I'm 6' 1" tall. Have the "tall" windshield on my Linhai 300. My head still sticks above the thing, and it's pretty noisy at highway speeds. Anyone know of a taller windshield that'll work on this scoot?

Yes there is. I have lost the link but do a search for a windshield for the Diamo Turista 300 and you should find a link to a U.S. Co. offering one. Last price I remember was about $145. This topic has come up a couple of times before but I don't recall anyone ever getting one.

Or you could try a Laminar Lip.

Gary,
What's a "Laminar Lip"? Not sure I've heard of that.

It's and add-on that extends your windshield a couple or so inches and supposedly deflects the wind away. Some people speak highly of them - I've never tried one but might for winter. Here is a link: www.laminarlip.com/reflex.php

Would that laminar lip for the Reflex work on our 300's?

Note also the special drill bits for plastic they have listed on the bikescreen site. These have a different helix angle to prevent chipping and cracking when you drill plastic.

oldkid,
What does it mean in reference to the "6-hole"? I do know that they have changed the windshield mount spacing on the '08 models. (Mine was one of the first in which the '07 windshields wouldn't work.) So I'm wondering if this thing would fit my '08?

Torque, That's new info. Haven't heard of that. What was your source of the info? Didn't hear anything about that from Scootertronics but will check w/Tommy Thunder.

Ollie,
When I went beck to my dealer to get the promised taller windshield, they didn't have it in stock, so they went to take one off one of their stock models. It didn't fit! Holes were in different places. Seems that sometime in '08 there was a production change. Difference between the early '08's (like mine) and the later '08's. Difference in handlebars and mirrors too. Some handlebars (for later '08's) covered in a plastic shroud. Mirrors are sometimes a solid chrome stem, others have a black plastic (covered?) stem with a gooseneck-style flexible section at the elbow for adjustment.
Anyway, the dealer found one on an early '08 model that fit mine. That's why I'm wondering about this Diamo windshield -- I wonder which version it's compatible with?

I did not know there was any difference in the windscreen of the 08 model. Mine is an 06 and this item has been offered before the 08 models were produced. Now, I think when I order I will call them first to make sure I get the correct one. In addition, the laminar lip might work, but I want a better quaility windscreen. I have both windscreens and they short one that is shipped with the bike is much higher quality than the long one we were able to purchase. I think my 06 mounts with only 6 holes.

Torque, that's interesting. I just saw a new '08 Fri. of last week and watched as the sport windshield was installed but I didn't eyeball it to check for differences. Thanks. I didn't see any obvious differences in shape and there were still 6 holes. This '08 was equipped the same as the '06s in terms of handle bars and mirrors.

Ollie,
Yes -- The shape of the windshield is the same on all models, and they all still have the 6-holes, but the spacing/alignment of the holes varies. And I also noticed that some of the '08's look identical to the '06's and '07's. Last time I was at the dealer, he had some of both versions on his sales floor. I'm not sure if I like the plastic shrouds on the handlebars or not. At a distance, it looked kind of sharp (brake lines were enclosed within the shroud), but upon closer inspection I thought the construction a bit "cheap"?

I got a windshield for my MD54-250B from www.ceebaileys.com (someone posted the link here before). I'm 6'2" and it sits at about eye level. A lot less noise and warmer ride (still hear a little wind around top of helmit unless I duck under). My wife is entirely behind the shield and she says it is a hugh difference. Ordered for the Honda Reflex and the holes matched perfectly. Shield is clear, 6 inches higher than the stock shield, and it fans out at the top. No performance hit and no clatter. About $165-170 shipped. I'm not familiar with the Linhai 300's styling, but if it clones the Japanese scooters, they probably have a shield that would work for you

Correction on the windshield issue -- Apparently I was given some incorrect information on my last trip to the dealer. The first windshield they attempted to install was the WRONG windshield. Windshields on the '07's and '08's are the same. Only the handlebars, mirrors, and passenger backrest have been changed. Handelbars are the same, but enclosed in a plastic shroud. Some of the mirrors may be black plastic with a flex-neck for adjustment.

And only some of the '08s have handlebars encased in plastic. Also, some'08s have trip odometers, others do not.

Torque, I have an 08' Linhai 300 with the optional taller windshield. I am 6' tall and my head is still over the taller windshield. I have contacted Gustafsson Plastics to make a taller windshield. He says that he thought there might be a difference in hole alignment of the 08' models. I am sending him my original short windshield and the taller windshield. The taller windshield is flimsier than the stock windshield and needs to be at least 8" taller to block the wind from my head. I am sending him the stock windshield so he can make a new windshield as sturdy as the stock one but 8" taller than the tall one. I have suggested to him that he might want to make a mold because he will probably get some orders from this forum. I am shipping the windshields to him tomorrow and should have something back in the next couple of weeks. Richard

The Linhai 300 is not a clone of anything else. It's body style is of Italian influence and unique, but for a few others, in the Chinese industry. The chassis and engine are derivatives of the Euro. Yamaha YP250. The windshield for the Linhai 300 is unique to that bike. Yes, the O.E. "Sport" version is of much better quality that the taller shield offered through Sunright. Sunright says it gets the tall shield through Linhai but it obviously is not made by the same supplier. Gustafsson has listed an even taller version for the Diamo Turista 300 (Linhai 300) for some time (see link below) but no one we know of has ever gotten one. Hopefully, guzmanr will have some success! www.bikescreen.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DiamoTurista300

Will do. I sent the windshields today through the post office. I suggested to Gustafsson to make a mold or pattern and that if all works out OK I would spread the word and steer business his way. I will post comments and photos when I get the finished product back. Richard

Ollie, I have the tall windshield from Gustafsson you refer to on order. I just ordered it yesterday, and have no indication of when it may arrive. It's reported to be 26 inches tall and as near as I can tell that adds about 2 inches.

I received my 27 inch tall windscreen from Gustafsson Plastics today and it works great. It took longer to mount than I thought but is extra thick and looks very high quality. I love the way it looks on the bike. Now 60 mph feels like the old 30 mph.

I called Gustafsson Plastics today, I don't know why he didn't contact me since I sent him the windshields from my 2008 Linhai to help him make the pattern for the taller windshield. Anyway he has the taller windshields completed now and available on his website. The optional tall windshield from Sunright is only 23" tall and made from thin material as anyone who has one knows. He is making the taller windshields, 27" and 31", out of the thicker material like the one that the original short windshield is made from. He tells me the 31" windshield came out really nice and he has them in different colors. I went ahead and ordered the 31" windshield and he recommended the light smoke, he says you can still see through it well at night. I reminded him to also send back my two screens I sent him to use. You can see and order the windshield at his website by using his search link and searching for "300" or "Linhai". I think his prices are probably in line for what one would expect to pay for a new windshield. He also does not pre-drill the alignment holes because of too many variables between scooters. He feels it is better to mount the windshield to each individual scooter. From my measurements before I sent him my windshields, I needed the extra 8" to get full coverage from a windshield, and the 31" should do it. He is going to try to make the windshield tomorrow and ship by Monday, hopefully I will get it by late next week. I will see about posting pictures of both the optional tall (23") and the taller (31") installed so everyone can get a better idea of what they look like. Richard

Richard, I sent you a PM about my install. Perhaps your smoke color will show in in photos. I ordered clear and it's so clear that the bike looks without it. The 27 inch tall I ordered still allows me to look over the top. oldkid
