Hey Don, shows you got the carbon fiber muffler on your scoot. Did you run with filter and jetting before putting it on, and then ride it after? How muh of a difference....if it's completey noticable...I'll splurge and go for one like yours....if not.....I'll just drill some holes. i did the jetting, filter and muffler at the same time.....went from 55 toped out to 62......i can get 65 in the dead of night with no wind when it is cool out.....she is still running just a bit lean though......the acceleration from 0-25 is much better......all around it feels the same with my 10 yr old on the back as it did stock with just me.....

07 Schwinn sport 150 stock weights - 12.8 g(6) stock weights - 12.8 g(4) now take off is really fast but I do believe it lowered my top end. Don't have a tack yet so can't tell for sure what rpm I'm running. The weird thing is with all 6 weights in when I hit the gas wot from a stop at about 15 mph it felt like the clutch completely grabbed but with the 4 weights I didn't feel that initial grab.

with lighter wieght the "hit" would not be as hard when it engages....

I was thinking that but wasn't real sure. I can't feel the "hit" at all now. Thanks for the reassurance don.+1 for you.
I think I am to light with my weights now with a total of 51.2 g. Lost some top end so I probably need to go a little heavier But I'll drive around a little bit and see

Hey, so after some tunning today (carb and rollers) I got it set up nicely. I lowered the needle two washers (eq of one notch), to the very bottom, as I was running fine on the top, but midrange was a bit rich. This fixed it nicely, but that is not what you all want to hear about is it?! ;D I was initially going to try it with 4 x 14g rollers, but my aftermarket variator would not have been balanced to my liking with only 4 rollers (the ramps are in 3 set of 2, kind of weird), so I went with 3x14g and 3x10g for the equivalent of 6x12g (but maybe NOT the same ), anyway, it improved my acceleration nicely back to where I wanted it, and my midrange was much better as well, but that may have been due to the carb tuning. Rider #: 190lbs+5lbs gear and various junk under the seat (no schoolbooks!! WOOT!!!) Aftermarket variator (ebay, but a decent one) rollers: 3x10g and 3x14g Acceleration is good off the line. Midrange and throttle responce are good as well. Re-acceleration is absolutely INSANE!!! (like from slowing for a red that just turns green and going again) Well, for a scooter anyway! ;D Aero

Well today I did more experimenting with my rollers today. I had 4 12.8 g rollers (total= 51.2 g) My scooter took off good and could hold a speedometer indicated 53mph and go higher but my rpm seemed high all throughout the rpm range. I put in 5 12.8 g rollers (total= 64 g) Acceleration felt almost the same and my rpm sounded considerably lower but my top end was about the same. I would think I could get more top end but my rpm's couldn't seem to get to much higher. I think 10 g rollers will get me my desired affect. Surprisingly with 5 rollers in the variator I thought there would be a vibration but I didn't feel any vibration. Sorry for the long post.

Longbo 150T-12. Bone stock driveline wise except for 11G rollers and a "racing variator" from Motogino. I weigh 171 lbs. and my scooter doesn't usually have any tools, spare parts, ect in it.
I used to accellerate at 5800 RPM and now it's at 6400 RPM. It doesn't feel like it "hits" as hard as before, and I'm not sure if it actually pulls any harder or if it's just making noise. I haven't had a chance to really try it out, but I may throw three of the stock rollers back in (14g?), but want to try to tune it with clutch and torque springs before I do.
An unrelated side note- I bolted my subframe down so it won't move and it handles much better... less squirmy in the rear and feels more planted during all phases of flight. It took about five minutes to remove the rubber pad, drill a hole and find a nut and bolt that fit to crank it down. As far as ride, if anything, it's smoother. Well worth the time.

I'm 160 and I run 14½ gram weights stock. Top speed is 75 give or take a few and 0-60 is about 10 seconds. I see no need to modify anything as acceleration is very nice and I can't monkey with the top speed since I have to maintain 65-70+ on my highway legs of my commute. Since I'm a lighter person, if I went to lighter weights I would get better acceleration and probably not suffer any top end but a heavier rider might.

Don-- Eventhough my scooter is stock from SYM, It's a highly modified and tuned engine. It's a 125cc bored and stroked to 171.2, 4 valve head 10.8:1 compression with ceramic composite cylinder. It has a 25mm carb with a 108 jet and a 35 main. Other than a free flow exhaust and perhaps a bigger carb or jets, there's really not much I do to increase it's power as it already has almost 16 hp anyway. I know it has a governor on the CDI and that may boost speed and acceleration, but I really don't need to faster than 75. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind getting there a bit faster too if I need to

Swapped from stock 13g to NCY 11g rollers all the way around on my variator.
Huge improvement in low end torque and acceleration, rev matching much better when exiting turns. The only downside I noticed is it takes a bit longer to get from 55 to 65.
My topped out speed is 65mph and I noticed with 11g (x6) weights the engine RPM is increased quite a bit from running the 13g (x6)
I was talking to some local scooter tuner guys that opened a shop near me and they swear by mixing weights. They say it gives the best of both worlds when you run a light weight x3 and a heavier weight x3. I have not tried mixing weights but the concept makes sense to me.
For now I'm just running 11g sliders with other mods and have been quite happy.

My scoot was stock accept for an iridium plug and just last weekend I installed 11g roller weights. Take-off did get a little bit better, and top end improved. Although my mid-range is not good at all. When i give half throttle from a stop I could hear and feel the scooter like its going into gear from neutral kind of like in a stick shift car shifting in to first. Why is that? I do have a washer by my needle in the carb slide which is helping. I took it out to see how it would run and it ran like major crap. before when I first got the scoot it would never run like crap even though i didn't have a washer in there. this just proves that something for sure is wrong with the scoot. Any ideas?

from what i have seen 10 to 11g is the sweet spot... This is like cheating. I'll now know where to start. Great thread! ;D

08 Lance GSR 50 Rider 150lbs kinda slow on takeoff removed 2 rollers - good takeoff slight over rev no loss of top end Although removing rollers does work, You run the risk of variator damage. I've seen it happen

Something that people like myself (who do not know the first thing about sliders and rollers) would find usefull would be an explanation of how to swop out the stock, and how to choose what kind to put back in. Photographs always help.

Excellent topic. I was driving a Lance Venice 150. The belt shredded a week ago. I cleaned out the CVT cover and got a new belt. But... found the variator stuck against the fan side. Got an impact wrench and removed the variator and went to reassemble the roller weights and discovered all had a flat wear spot about 1 cm wide. Only 1400 miles usually at 35-45 mph. Have asked for replacements under warranty like the belt. Any suggestions on replacing. I figure I'll reassemble and turn the worn sides in different directions to minimize the effect until I get new ones.

It seems to be the consensus that you will improve acceleration with lighter weights. Probably have approximately the same top speed, although it amy take a bit longer to reach it. here is my question... How have the lighter weights effected hill climbing? Any change due to the higher RPM's?

With the lighter rollers the acceleration is MUCH better, top end is unchanged, and it is easier to hold the top end also. Also, the top speed is reached much QUICKER, not slower, which is another improvement. The only real drawback is loosing a few MPG, but I still got over 70mpg, even with 10g and 11g. I also gained about 10mph hill climbing over stock. There is a long and steep hill coming up the road to my house (also with a 50mph limit ) that I would climb, with stock 14g roller, at about 38mph tops, with either 10g or 11g rollers, I can climb it between 48 and 50 mph. Again, better acceleration, better hill-climbing, slightly lower MPG, top end unchanged. Oh, and no offense meant, but what you said is a bit off. How can you have better acceleration, but take longer to reach the same top speed? It's just not logical... Aero

Aero Aero is correct I'm running 10's and acceleration is sik fast compared to the stock 14's . ;D My bikes "sweetspot" in the powerband is between 6500-8000 rpm and with the lighter sliders it gets there quick. Also I have never lost anything on top end on the scooters I've had with lighter than stock weights. Hills are not a problem and barely notice any slowdown on them. BTW sliders are smoooth and worth the extra couple bucks. imo

Hello All Thought I would add my 2 cents I just replaced the stock rollers (no idea the weight) on my '08 Lance Venice. New dr. Pulley sliders 11g My neighbor also suggested a critical step. - Lightly sanding the inside of each variator plate (the part that squeezes the belt). Both side of my plates were very smooth with black lines all over them. I put it back together without buffing, and the belt would slip at top speed going uphill (I may have used a few swear words at this point ) After I took it apart again GRRRR - I sanded both plates. Nothing major, just enough to remove most of the black and add some light scratches. Much better! No slipping, Now for the results ....... 175 pound guy no extra junk Before - 0 to 10mph was fine, a little sluggish 15mph to 35mph took at least 6 seconds 35 mph to 52 mph took another 6 seconds Biggest problem was I would lose about 10 mph going up a long hill. From 52 mph down to 42 mph After - 0 to 25 very fast, less than 5 seconds. The wheel actually pops off the ground 25 mph to 52 about another 6 seconds Best result - I could hold 49 mph on a hill - I haven't tried the monster hill yet (too dark) but tomorrow before the Chargers game Hope my tip helps, Doug in San Diego
