This came in 'over the transom' in my email... it may not qualify as an actual 'joke', but it is cutting satire, as it is said, true humor is always based on fact... If this steps on any toes, forgive me, it is more a matter of objective logic than anything poitical... The moderators should feel free to delete this if it is found out of line. ;D I HAVE TO PASS A URINE TEST FOR MY JOB... SO I AGREE 100% Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt, doing drugs, while I work. . . Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? Pass this along if you agree or simply ignore it if you don't. Hope you all will pass it along, though... Something has to change in this country and soon!!!!!!! I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out' ;D Just a thought...

eh the money you'd spend on drug testing wouldn't be worth it, especially since the results would most likely be tampered with or not even paid attention to. Also some people have earned their welfare check. There are people that never had a job that are on foodstamps, but there are also elderly people who have worked all their lives and just ended up broke that also need them. I sure as hell (i am a cashier at a grocery store) wouldn't say to an 80 year old man "Heh i bet you didn't even have to pee in a cup for that bread...".

Also i've noticed that most people believe that just because someone is on foodstamps it means they do drugs or are just abusing the system. I think this is because the only people we remember seeing with foodstamps are those that stand out. You won't remember the nice old man using food stamps (which i see more often that a blood shot 20yr old) or the war veteran. What people remember is the guy that says "eh it ain't my money" when they see the bill or the ones that have bloodshot eyes or just look high.

True.. This is such a double edged sword.. MY dad works the Food Pantry every wednesday and my son, helps out... They told me that the majority of the people coming in lately are all young/middle aged families, who are working, but can't make it without the help.. They aren't making enough to afford the babysitters, rent, utilities, fuel to get towork(THey should give scooters to people like this), They don't qualify for government assistance, since they both work, but they can't make it otherwise. If they both quit their jobs, then they would qualify, and would get bas passes and fuel vouchers, food stamps, and welfare checks. THey woud make more money. They refuse to do that. SO they rely on the Food Pantries and relatives to help them get by.. Most of the people on Foodstamps these days are the Elderly, who as Mortar said, can't afford to live without it. Also there are many people who worked all their lives, but they have no retirement. MY dad worked, banking on his pension, then the young guys that worked with him, out voted the older guys, and voted out the pension for $.50 more an hour. Luckily my dad had stocked a little away, and my mom has a nice pension from the Catholic Diocese.. THis is the crazy thing, it finally is starting to work a bit for who it's supposed to.. It was started to help farmers during the off seasons.. it turned into a massive confusing glob of goo...

I used to run a janitor crew. We did hair samples on all prospective employees. Boy, did I hate doing the bald guys (only one place we could get the sample!) But at least it prevented a drug-crazed guy from wielding a mop.
Legalize everything; let people guide their own lives.

I was in a store where there was a drunk person, fighting mad, the store didn`t let them buy lottery tickets with food stamps---something wrong with that---or is it just me. ?

I would like a drug test also but what would happen when a person with kids has failed a test then, it is going to be the kids that suffer from the lost of food. then comes the question should the kid be with the parents then what do we do house them where they run the chance of being abuse or or lost in a system of no family, and most people getting welfare are families not single people. I know it sucks to work for yours and some people get a free ride as people say but i am sure most of them free rider would rather have a job,not all but most and would be glad to switch places with you. A single person with no income in va receives 200 a month in foodstamps and nothing else, wouldnt call that living on the high end and this goes up if a person has kid and can recivve about 90 dollar a month in cash vale per kid. so imagine raising a child on 90 a month and three hundred dollars in stamps not something most people would like to do especially the ones that have to, its the people that abuse the system that makes this people look bad not the people that need it

are you including all drugs ? i am bi polar i take 4 different meds. they work ok but i still have problems sleeping my shrink has tried all kinds of meds over the years, but always the No sleeping prob. he has given me strong meds to help me sleep, and i do fall asleep, but awaken in a hour or 2, and cant fall back asleep 6-7 yrs ago i was out with some friends smoked a lil grass, 1st time in a ton of years, had the best sleep i have had in a decade. reported this to my shrinkie dinkie. he said well if it helps, do it. cant give you a prescription for it and it is illegal, but if thats what you need to do to sleep, do it. so every night i smoke a lil { maybe 1/2 a J } and have been sleeping like a baby ever since. should i lose my S.S. and my $45 in food stamps. because i smoke a lil grass to help me sleep? or should i stop smoking and always be out of energy, tired all the time, and since i was so sleep deprived i couldn't concentrate during the day im VERY curious what you think about this. EDIT:::: ted-im very sorry about your g/f. this is a messed up disorder, isnt it? also this is why i came to edit.. now im not a big pot buyer, i buy like $50 worth and it lasts a month or 1 1/2 months so when im out , my 'dealer' isnt in a rush to get to me, because of the low $ and quantity but he is a nice guy and tries to make sure i dont run out , he knows my predicament and those day or days i dont smoke i dont sleep, well maybe 2-3 hours of NON rem sleep / day if i had the money , id move to a state where medicinal pot was legal.

Here in the Uk the government are changing the laws so that you must do community work in order to receive welfare for example sweeping the streets, painting fences etc and also once your youngest child reaches 5 years old you will no longer receive welfare and are forced back into work. I'am strongly in favor of this

ok i sorta agree with the 'do community work' thing
but you have to take each case on its own merits.
after years & years of suffering, i now am very reclusive. i dont like to be around people. they scare me.
should i be made to be around people?
if they could give me 'community work' where i dont have to be around people just do painting etc, by myself, id do it. but if you wanna put me with a bunch of people i dont think i can
also another thing you must realize alot of people on 'assistance' have mental problems exercise is good for anyone with mental disabilities , but not if you put a bunch of people with different problems together. might not be the best thing.
