My roketa had a small bar running across the fill opening. I used a combo of wire cutters and needle nose pliers to remove it. No more problems.

Another option is to buy a 2gal gasoline container. Easier to fill at the station, then when you get home, you can take your time and fill it. These thoughts are with another vehicle in mind to fetch the gasoline. Traveling with a gasoline container on a scooter is not advised.

Patience, just use a low trigger press, and ease the fuel into the tank. You can't go full speed on the fillups. You have to go easy.

i don't get why you'd want it to go in farther? If the nozzle goes any lower it will shutoff before you have a full tank

I just fill up my five gallon gas can and fill my scooter from it otherwise I'd be going to the gas station every other day since I travel 36 to 40 miles each day.

Be carfull what angle you fill and you should be ok. It takes prictice. I don't recomend removing the bar becaus that is there to activate the auto shutoff on the gas pump when your tank if filled!

on our particular model the gas pump WILL NOT go inside. no matter how slow you try and pump you get a 'splash back.' i believe this is due to the fact that the the bar only sits about a 1/2-3/4 inch from top which does not allow the nozzle to "go inside" our tank. since i removed the bar (takes maybe 15 secs with need nose) i have not had any splash back or wasted fuel. but of course you should always be present and aware while filling up.
good luck...

Does your filling station have paper filters mounted by the pumps? Will those allow the pump to fill ?

Rather than remove the bar I just twisted it so I can still use the bar to judge the fuel level but now the fuel doesn't splash back.

That's right......California has those crazy rubber doohickeys on their fuel pumps.
My Rocketa has a bar there too but it's about 1/2 inch wide. It's a PITA but at least our fuel pumps are "circumcised" here in Wisconsin!

Aha! The dreaded vapor recovery system... now I understand! For those of you who haven't seen it, it's a 2" accordion style hose that recovers the vapors from the gas pump and it can be a real pain in the butt!
I was reading on another board where a girl in CA bought a fuel resistant hose from an auto parts store about 6" long and slips it over the metal end of the pump, thereby defeating the vapor recovery system and making it easy to fill the scoot... worth a try.

We have those here in Missouri as well. Some places don't have them so it must not be a law. I just thought every state had em. Didn't know that, interesting.
Oh and when filling up my Roketa I just pull the boot up and watch the gas go in as I dodge the bar in the middle. That way I know when to stop.

Deja Vu.
I usually fillup a 5gal jeri-can when needed. I add Seafoam to my stock in storage and fillup my scoot as needed.
I find even with slow careful fill-ups, because of the metal cross-piece, spillage is a pain, so the home storage depot meets my needs.
Have a nice ride.....

every gas nozzle i've ever used will fit in my tank past the bar. if your nozzle doesn't then turn the nozzle a little to the side so most of the gas will bypass the bar. squeeze the trigger just enough to start the pump and keep an eye on the fill, do not watch the pump readout. make sure you bring enough money to fill your tank so you don't have to watch the readout. i've run mine over only once, and that was when i squeezed the lever all the way.

After filling up just twice at the pump, I went an bought a 5 gal can to store at home. This 5 gal can lasts about a month. With the scooter I now just drive my SUV a few times a month now and when I empty the 5 gal can I'll take it to a station in my SUV. These last few month I've spent maybe $50 per month on gas where I was spending over $150 per month before the scooter. Just over three months now. At this rate the gas savings will have paid for my scooter in about two years.

i have a 16 gallon gas pump that i use at home, sled tractor and the scoots, now if i can keep the kids out of it it would probably last longer hehe

You could always get a mccuff: www.mccuff.com/Also with regards to the vapor recovery system/boot, I heard that by September of 09, it's going to be law nationwide...not sure if that's true or not but it's what I heard. If so, get used to those stupid things. At least a mccuff would help with those a bit. Just be sure to get the right one for your bike, the original, or the sport. The MC-54 bikes they suggest the sport model.

Some of our members use the McCuff. I am just very cautious when I fill. The first time, I learned to put the scooter on the CENTER stand, not the side, or kick stand. It took a couple of tries, but from one of the videos here, I learned it.

I also have that bar, and live in Cali. It's really not an issue; just pull back the rubber part of the gas filler so that when you pull the trigger gas will actually come out, and ease it in (partial throttle pull). I've never even come close to spilling anything.
Now, concerning the recommendation about cutting the bar, I would NOT recommend this. One small spark and you're done. I've sparked metal many times cutting it, and with it bring right there in the gas tank, there's no way I'm flirting with that.
