I had just purchased the new 2008 Maui from AllNewSports.com, now despite all the complaints I have noticed for them so far. It's been more of a hit and miss with that particular site. But once I receive this thing I'd most likely look up parts elsewhere, rather than have them replace them for me. Now, what I'd like to know is if anyone has this new model and what kind of problems they experienced out of the box. Or even those for older models so I know what to look for. This is my first new motor bike purchase, and is the only thing I can afford/want to ride given gas prices are to spike to 5$ in my area by late summer. And I work minimum wage jobs, leaving me unable to afford a car/insurance/gas/maintenance and so forth. What are some things I should check, tighten, replace or whatever to maintain this bike and keep it in running condition until global warming finally catches up to us. Sorry this is a bit of a tedious read. And thanks for your time.

You need to check your front brake line for clearance as it can rub the front tire and cause brake failure. Also inspect your fuel line and make shure it is the proper length and everything is installed corectly. Use blue lock tight on your front axle nut and both muffler mount bolts. Other than that air the tires to the proper inflation and ride.

I rode mine for 100 miles with the original fluids, ie: Oil and gear Oil. changed them out and put good oils back in. At 600 miles I changed the oil, left the gear oil in. I now have 950 miles and everything is fine.
I did have the front break line rub the front tire and got a hole in it. All New Sports replaced it in a week under warranty.

Well it came in and it starts up fine, unsure to if there really is oil in the tank though. Everything went together just right, my only issues are a side piece is a little loose. And the seat wont shut. :\ Is the locking mechanism easy to adjust for this?
Also my Step Mom ordered another for my Grandma, and it came today too. However the Horn, Lights, etc... work but the engine wont sputter nor does the electric start make a clicking sound, ideas?

Make sure the battery connections are tight. Try using the kick start with the bike on center stand; be sure to pull your left brake lever when starting. The seat latch is easy to adjust. My Maui is an '07 from All new sports; came with a broken right mirror and the variator nut came off at 10 miles...cost a hundred plus for a mechanic to put it right. All New Sports never replied to my many e-mails as to whether they would reimburse me and they gave me the glad-hand over the mirror replacement until I told them not to bother and absolved them of any responsibility and replaced the mirror myself. I knew nothing about scooters at that point and found this forum a week later to learn how to do the maintenance and repairs myself.

theebatman, on grama's scoot check the fuse in the battery box, also the lever switch on the brake may be faulty(assuming you are pulling the brake when attempting to start) Check wirin for loose connections from the battery to the starter. One other possible prob could be the starter relay/solenoid, you can bypass it tocheck by jumping the terminals with a screwdriver.

received my new 2008 Maui 50cc from allnewsports and the float assembly seems to be hitting the side of the tank. They suggested that I turn the assembly some to see if that helps. So far any emails I've sent them have been answered in a timely matter. The only thing so far that I'm not pleased with is the chineese manual, that don't tell you what type of oil to use or the weight of gear oil to use. The service manual sucks. I've got a question to add: I changed the oil after about 2 miles. How far does the oil have to be on the dip stick to be full. I see xxxxxxxx on the stick then the stick goes thicker on up, so I filled it till it reach the end of the xxxxx just at the thick part. I've read here that it should only go half way. Did I fill it too far?

Do not fill the oil above the XXXX's. If you're at the top of the XXXX's you should be fine (as long as you're not above them).

Reccomended oil level is halfway up the xxxxxxx on the dipstick. check level with dipstick screwed out. I use Mobil1 5w30 in the crank & castrol 80/90 in the final drive (gearbox)

Thanks, indy. What is the oil capacity of the crank on theses scoots? Why would it only go half way up the stick, when the xxxx go further. Kinda base it on car or lawn mower dip stick. Just want to make sure I get it right. Thanks

Cranckcase oil capacity is 800ml dry. I usually pour between 5-600ml then slowly bring it to the halfway point on the dipstick. Its easy to overfill. TIP- drain oil with bike on center stand, when oil stops draining, put the stand up and lean scoot to the right to allow trapped oil to drain - Also always check your oil level with scoot on centerstand on level ground.

Thanks indy. The center stand you are talking about is not the side kickstand, correct?

Thanks indy. The center stand you are talking about is not the side kickstand, correct? Correct. The centerstand is the one that lifts the back wheel off the ground. Rob

He fellas and Ladys.... I got my Roketa Maui from atv discounter. Looks like my small Fuel filter is leaking gas. Hopfully its just a cheap china part that just need replaced. Seems like some of lines are loose underneath the bike as well. Im going to tie them up a bit. Fuel filter is only $5.00 localy and avtdiscounter told me to purchase them myself. (though the scooter has 2.5 miles on it!) Any one have simular issues with the Maui? THanks for the help.

The crappy little fuel filter should be replaced, along with the inferior hoses. Amen to that. When I replaced my vacuum hoses a few days ago the new ones were MUCH thicker than the originals. I STILL can't find fuel hoses though... (no one seems to stock 'em with that small a diameter). Gonna have to start calling around. Anyone know the size - 1/8? Rob

I used 1/8" for my vacuum line, an 1\4" on my fuel line. Fuel line secured with hose clamps, vacuum line with small cable ties. Napa has a nice filter Napagold #3011 or maybe its #1033 I cant remember, but its one or the other.

I've got several projects at once I'm working on today - just pulled the alternator out of my Suburban. It's a Napa part so I'll be going to Napa later today. I'll get a filter and hopefully fuel hose while I'm there.
You sure it's 1/4 inch for the fuel lines? That's kinda big (at least compared to the original). Definitely would need clamps for a 1/4 hose as it would seem that it would slide off very easily.
As a reference, I slipped the vacuum hose on my carb and filter (1/8 inch) and it was a very snug fit. But, if you're using 1/4 and it works, who am I to argue? *grin*

Pretty sure on the 1/4, to be safe if you can take your old filter w ya and use it for a reference. I know my fuel lines will definately leak without the clamps. But I have no flow problems. :-}

I got the same model at the beginning of June, and I have had very few problems with it. Those that I have had are: * I overtorqued the gear oil fill plug and stripped some of the threading. It wasn't severe enough to require a helicoil, but it was upsetting. Be VERY careful. * The front brake line was dragging on the front tire. It wore through the sheath, but it's now secured with a zip-tie. * It can be very picky about starting, especially if it does for a second or two and then dies. It usually needs to sit for 5 minutes (the alternative is a lot of cranking, which is bad) * The seal around the under-seat storage wasn't installed very well and came loose, hanging and catching when I tried to close it. I ended up using hot glue to affix the seal properly. * The side-mirrors weren't stiff enough to stay set when riding. I used hot glue to fill the cavity at the joint slightly so that they wouldn't move on their own but I could still adjust them. I checked for restrictions in the exhaust, CDI (at least, the ones that have been discussed on previous models), and carburetor and found none. I haven't yet opened the drive belt cover to check for drive belt restriction. Over the course of about 1050 miles in the two months I've had it, I've averaged 105 mpg and have a top speed of ~39-40 mph. Overall, I haven't changed anything at all performance-wise, other than following the air/fuel tuning as recommended by this PDI: x1scooters.com/scooterpdi.html . Also, I did add a trunk (for a different model) on the back with quite a bit of modification. edited for clarification.

I was wondering if anyone with this model (MC-08-50Y) 2008 Roketa Maui 50cc, what kind of gear oil should be added? Should it be regular gear oil, semi synthetic or synthetic? I changed it once in the 2 months I've had it and put it 75/90 I believe. Would regular gear oil, being thicker slow the scoot down?

I read somewhere on the bike or in the manual (I don't remember where, but it was one of those) to use 85W-140. Personally, I use semi-synthetic (Castrol? I don't recall, I'd have to check).
Same model and year.

Thank Kialari. The roketa dealer mentioned something like 75/90 gear oil, but I hear so many other options and just want to make sure that I'm really adding what best for the scoot and gears. I have heard many people using semi-synthetic. Would it hurt to switch from one to the other?

I've heard arguments from both sides, but have myself switched between regular and synthetic oils with no issues. Any time I have purchased a used vehicle I've used semi-synthetic oil, and I have to believe that in at least a couple of cases the previous owner has used either organic or fully synthetic oil.
Of course, with bikes it may be different--I could be completely wrong. Maybe we'll get someone else here with more experience.
edit: I did some reading, it seems that 75W-90 is the consensus. Synthetic seems to be what's suggested as well. Perhaps I should switch, it might explain why mine seems a little noisy.

That was my concern with synthetic. I've tried and put in my vehicle and I heard all kinds of noises. Thanks for the imput kialari. We'll see if someone else has any suggestions for this scoot.
