I just got a Big Chief Retro GT 50cc 4 stroke scooter. It was a used 2007 with 13 miles on it. The girl sold it to me because it wouldn't start. I bought it, cleaned the carb and the jets and it starts fine. The problem is it WILL NOT go over 15 miles per hour. I thought it might be because I am a bigger guy but my wife rode it and it did the same thing. I had a Venice before this and that bike kicked ass, and so does my wifes Galileo ( same engine as the TnG Venice). Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

What often happens is that others will post suggestions, only to be told "that" has already been tried. With your scooter experience, you should already at least have an idea where the problem is . . posting all of your troubleshooting efforts so far should make diagnosing the issue more efficient. Your description does not clarify if the engine is not "revving up", or if there is a CVT drive issue.
Researching the numerous previous threads discussing similar issues should also help.

I have fixed other 50cc 2 stroke motors before and had them respond nicely. This is my first 4 stroke 50cc, I cleaned the jets and the carb, I made sure the fuel system was o.k. i5t seems to be running fine motor wise but when I get on it the thing doesn't want to go over 15 miles an hour. I was thinking it might be the drive belt, but I am open to suggestions.  |

My first thought was if this scoot truly has only 13 miles on it... it's not broken in yet.
Do you think the carb was gummed-up already? Odd with only 13 miles on it. Maybe you just did a better job installing it?
Does the problem get better or worse as the engine warms up?
What does the spark plug look like? Dark'ish vs. light'ish?
Does it accelerate to 15 mph quickly? Or is it sluggish getting there?
Definitely check the air flow. Coming in and going out.
