Hi guys/gals. This is my first post here but have looked it these boards alot lately and got all kinds of info and the answers to alot of questions. (love this place!) But my problem now is pretty specific and nothing I have searched has done me much good so i am hopeing to get some help. This might go better in a general 50cc subject since its more cvt related, but mabye someone here is more fimiliar with this model. Beware this might be long and boring, and some (most) might not be important, but i want to give as much info as possible, so here goes...
About 2 weeks ago on my way home, about a mile from home, i noticed an intermintent vibration (mostly in my feet through the floorboard). usually about a half second on, half second off. i say usually because it was quicker or slower depending on my speed (not rpms) but knew it was to slow to be wheel related. Parked it that night and 3 miles into work the next morning (still vibrating) and my belt snapped. Exploded would be a better term because all that was left in the cvt case was the teeth of it everywhere and bits of twine left wrapped aroud the clutch...
So i go to the local scooter shop here and explain and they say theres no way to tell for sure what belt i need by looking at it and without the old one its gonna have to be trial and error. ok. whatever. he shows me 2 that he thinks is it. i get a 738 16.5 28. the longer of the 2. i slap it on, its very (very) loose but works, gets me around, but i still have that on off vibration i feel in my feet. at this piont i have already concluded in my mind that the vibration i first felt was the original belt had gone loose (maybe the rubber came loose in spots but the twine or whatever you want to call it held it together for a bit) and the vibration was caused by the teeth rubbing aginst eachother in the middle of the cvt.
so i go back and get the other belt he recomended. 729 17.7 30. it still feels loose to me (i can eaisly press the belt together between the variator and cluch with my finger and thumb) but the vibration went away. but i have lost a whole lot in top end. i think about 10mph. i keep to side streets and am used to getting passed by cars but now it feels like im impeding traffic and it feels unsafe.
There is no binding in the clutch, it will open all the way. Now my scoot wont go past 4500rpms normaly. (6500 used to be normal) if im goin WOT at a good, long downhill it might get to 5500. If i sarted with that size belt i would think it was too short and wasnt aloud to ride high enough on the variator, but the longer belt has its own issues. i pulled the case off today to double check that a slider didnt fall out of whack (didnt) my variator is clean.
does anyone know if i have the right belt? if i do what else might cause this? my lower the usual rpms is whats throwing me the most. if it is the right belt what do i do to counter the problem im having? If the 738 is right, whats causing the vibration? ive been wanting to switch over to sliders but i want that to be upgrade, not a fix to a problem that something else caused.
this thing came stock with 8.5 gram rollers (i weighed them today). which i have never seen looking at all the 50cc stuff online. but id imagine that since this i heavier scoot it would be different than most stuff ive seen anyways.
kinda learning as i go with this thing. but as much as i try to learn about it, i learn 10x as much when something breaks!
any help you guys can give would be great! thanks!
