I've been gone for a few weeks. Looks like I missed something. Everyone is back here now? I'm totally confused.

I got my TaoTao CY50-B last October and it's pretty much my sole form of transportation around town since my truck died on me last Summer and it was too expensive to fix. So I put that money on a new scooter instead, I've never been so happy! Sure, it only goes up to about 40 mph if I'm lucky (I live in a very hilly area and I'm right at the weight capacity for this scoot) but it gets me to work and back, to the store, plenty of storage to store groceries, etc, and I only pay about $3 a week for gas to fill up my tank (if that!) it's wonderful. I did have to take my scooter into the shop recently but I was amazed it only cost $40 for parts and labor to fix a couple of issues that have been nagging me, so much cheaper than the $1000+ i'm often quoted to fix that old truck of mine. So while I do ride my scooter because I literally have to, I really would anyways, because its such a joy and way less stressful and less expensive than riding a car these days! Plus I don't have to pay for tags or other fees. And it feels great. Even in 30 degree morning weather on the way to work Just bundle up!

It's now to the point that it's not just enjoyable to me, but it feels strange, awkward, and depressing to not ride for a day. Do you guys feel it to that level? Yep I do I missed 2 days in a row due to snow and I was feeling it. I did enjoy the ride in this morning. I cringe when I think about having to take the truck to town for whatever reason...

It's a good question. I started riding a little Zuma 125 round trip to work (it was 30 miles) just to save money. I rode it on errands when I could just to save money. I started to ride it further and further just for the experiences.
When I moved from the city to a small town (now 70 miles round trip to work) I needed something bigger. Now that I had something bigger I needed to go further.
Due to circumstances I was not able to ride for nearly 2 months and found myself needing to get back to life on 2 wheels.
I think it's something primitive. Just you, the machine...no distractions. Your fully committed to keeping yourself and the bike safe...because the road below you is unforgiving. It's being on that edge...not being stupid, not being foolish...but connecting to the world around you. Smelling the flowers as you pass, feeling a stone as it kicks up and strikes you. Your fully alive.
At least that's what I think.

I think you may be onto the core of it, houndguy.

Are you sure you're not agreeing with each other because you both like the same cute little doggie avatar? Actually Hound guy that is a very accurate analysis.

Someone once described it as....
In a car you're just watching the scene go by, with a bike you're part of the scene.

Someone once described it as.... In a car you're just watching the scene go by, with a bike you're part of the scene. That is exactly it for me. When I drive my car to go anywhere, I dont care about the journey, its just getting to the destination. Traffic sucks, its the same scenery you have seen a million times before, its just, well... blah. But on 2 wheels, you got the air in your face, the smells of the area, no matter if they are good or bad lol. You notice little changes in the scenery around you that are different then all the million times before, but why? why do you notice it? Because you are more alert, you are now focused more on the journey than the destination. The journey is now an adventure or if you are a gamer, a quest. Its now about getting from point A to point B alive and unscathed. In a car, there is little that we worry about, after all we are surrounded by a big metal cage with lots of safety features built in. The adventure is now afoot! Its me with nothing surrounding me. Everything is now out to get me and I must, no, I will survive. Now, instead of ahhh that cute doggie is chasing my car, but on two wheels, its now, AWAY FOUL DEMON SPAWN! You shall not have me this day! Every mile is now an adventure! What lurks around the next corner, I dont know, I am excited, scared, relieved all at the same time! I have made it to my destination! what a rush, what a thrill. Now the destination doesn't seem as exciting as it was when I thought about going there. The best part though, there is another adventure waiting for me on the return trip! Thats 2 adventures in 1 day. You get home and realize WOW that was exhilarating. I need to make trips like this more often. Ok, lets put this milk up before it goes bad.
