Hey, I ride a TaoTao 50cc scooter. The other day my oil was empty and my husband added some oil he had lying around. Problem is it was 2 stroke oil. My question is can i go ahead and add the proper 4-stroke oil in the tank or do I have to remove the remaining 2-stroke stuff first? Is it okay to just mix them? Thanks all.

Why take a chance. Drain the 2 stroke stuff out of it and put in the right amount of the good stuff. $20 at Walmart buys enough Shell Rotella T6 synthetic for your scoot with some left over and you have the best engine protection you can get.

Thanks! I probably sound like an idiot but how do I drain the old oil out? I've never done it before.

I highly suggest learning as much as possible about how to do regular repairs and maintenance on your bike. Chinese bikes are notorious for needing quite a bit more maintenance than Japanese bikes and eventually paying to get service done by a professional will quickly outstrip the value of the bike.
Not to mention nearly everyone will encounter problems needing these basic repairs that you WILL need to learn how to do. Valve adjustments, carb cleaning, spark plug replacement, oil changes and CVT maintenance. The CVT is a very important one to do, most people here replace the factory belt immediately upon getting the bike as a shredded belt can strand you in an instant and if there's one thing Chinese belts are famous for it's shredding without warning. And the next thing is replacing the spark plug with a name brand one, many people have also had hard starting and tough to diagnose issues which turned out to simply be a bad Chinese spark plug. And oil changes are a given, these scooters don't have oil filters so ned their oil changed quite often. People new to scooters are surprised when they find out they need to change their oil every 1000 miles.

the 2 stroke will be good enough to drive to your nearest autozone (or something), and back, and buy good oil.
Usually mixing could be ok, if you know the viscosity of the oil. For instance, if the factory recommended oil is 10W40, and you added 15W40, but don't like how the bike performs, you could add some 10W30, which when you have about a 50/50 mix, should give you something like 12W35, which is way lighter than the 15W40 you put in there in the first place.
2stroke oil may have different properties then regular engine oil (different burn temperature, different viscosity, different metal abrasion protection, different chemical composition, etc...).
For that reason I'd not really recommend to drive with different oils, especially not for longer distances. If one day you lose all your oil, and the only thing you have to get you going is peanut oil, hey, some oil is better than no oil. Fill up the bike and drive to your nearest gas station. Otherwise, it's better to run the engine with a low oil level, then mixing it with some 'unknown' oil.

The short answer is dont mix oils. The proper answer is you can mix oil of the same weight and API rating (the API rating is located is a little circle on the bottle) Newest best oil is not always the best oil for you. Check out this link: www.aa1car.com/library/api_motor_oil_classifications.htmespecially the part at the bottom of the page talking about flat tappet camshafts. The owners manuel will tell you what API class of oil to use. I would recomend something like this: www.valvoline.com › ... › Motor Oil › ATV & Motorcycle Oil

2T oil is designed to be in the top end of the engine and burned with gas instead of being in the bottom end where the crank is . Its also not suggested to mix diff brands of oils as well since they contain diff detergents and films . I have used Rotella myself but now use Castrol Synblend
