The speed your allowed to ride small scooters like 50ccs is dependent on your location we have no restrictions on speed or displacement while i live, and we go by Brake Horse power to decide whether is a motor driven cycle or motorcycle. so where i am at least bbks are legal www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=810&q=430480

Wow dude, I read your story and that sounds like a nightmare. I hope it works out ok in the end. derbi Here in PA a motor driven cycle cannot exceed 5 bhp or 50cc without a class M. www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/fact_sheets/fs-momo.pdfOddly enough, my registration application got returned to me by the DOT saying I only paid $9 instead of the required $18. In fact $18 is for a motorcycle, $9 for a scooter. Called them up right away and the bozo on the line claimed that $18 was correct, despite the fact that I was holding THEIR facts sheet in my hand which expressly states otherwise (see link above). He finally realized he had no clue and talked to a manager. When he came back he said I was right, but that the dealer must have messed up the application and I needed him to work it out. Silly me, I believed him. The dealer filled out everything correctly, but told me I was probably out of luck since this kind of error has been happening often lately at the DMV. So I called back and the next lady I talked to admitted the DMV's mistake and is (hopefully) going to get it fixed. Not that the registration issue is one such example, but I'm not worried about eventually installing a BBK because, as unlikely as getting pulled over for it is, I can usually verbally resolve situations. I've gotten out 2 speeding tickets and a few credit card late fees, and the cops from the community that I've met are pretty nice people. Watch, all this narcissism is going to come back to haunt me...

Tags out here are a pain too. I get pulled over alot on my motor assisted bicycle. It's only 33cc's but it has a CVT. It will run its hearts content out at 35mph. They tell me I have to have moped tags on a gas bike. I one up them every time by pulling out my laminated copy of the MI state code regarding MAB's. I have yet to get a ticket on that thing but, I drive it with fingers crossed.
