Hello All, Please give me some things to check on this scooter. Ihave a 50cc gy6 4 stroke. This morning I changed out the Main Jet, Installed #85 because I am using a uni filter. After I got it all back together, I started it, let it warm up about 5 to 8 minutes, Than took it for a ride around my nieghborhood. It Ran BETTER than it ever has, NO BOGGING, Great PickUp and Steady Speed. I took a longer ride into town this afternoon, Again, For the FIRST 20 - 30 minutes Ran Great, than it started loosing power. I went from 35+mph nice and steady than it started loosing power, went down to about 15mph and probably down to 10 for the rest of the ride back home. It Never stated bogging or stalling out but I could not get it to go any faster than 10mph. (very dangerous on the road like that) ANY suggestions I can check on Why I Run Great for about 1/2 or so and than lose more than 50% power? THank you very much for any tips/ Patrick

It sounds like your motor is over heating, you might want to try a bigger main jet like 88 just to she if that will help, you can add a bbk and only have to up jet five size exp. 70 to 75 with a stock air box, but just add a open air filter you really have to go up, it lets alot more air then the stock box. Just guess on your issue

Thank you for your suggestions.. I have been thinking of going with a bbk, I am afraid that there already be some issues with my cylinder or pistons or rings or whatever.. (never been inside this engine, just under valve cover, did a valve adjustment) So I am thinking that if I have to start removing the top half to see if there are cracks or burnt things inside, I might as well go with New Parts Like the BBK. I would like to know, if I did do BBK what ALL ELSE would Ihave to Change or Upgrade on this scooter? (again, 50cc gy6 4 stroke) Thank you again for your reply and help. Patrick

Have you done a valve adjustment? They could be to tight but it will start but when the engine gets hot the valve clearances get to the point where they don't open enough.

YES, I did do a valve adjustmant, as a matter of fact, I have another thread on here asking if I could have possibly made the Valves Too Tight..?? I am, By No Means, a machanic, I know nothing about engines (cars or scooters) but I have been READING and READING and watching youtube videos trying to learn What I CAN do and what I can't. I am pretty machanically inclinded so I thought if I just follow some directions I can do some fixes. The Valve Adjustment was an easy thing to do, BUT, I have a hard time Understanding the gapping,, I have a mannual on this scooter (Found it online here) and it says "set the valves at 0.05mm <<< for both IN and EX.. BUT I see A LOT of posts saying .003 or .004 < and I don't know what that means. \ I set my Valves to 0.05mm (.0197in) for Both, DID I Make than too tight? I wish it was something like that, something I can try before going and buying a BBK or Tearing down the engine. Please let me know if there are things I can try Before GOING to the EXSTEEM and taking this thing apart, because I may not be able to Put It back together. Thank you

Ok, I recall your other post. But your saying that you set the valves at .05 mm, might be to tight.most people on here when referring to valve lash go with inches(fraction). So .004 inch would be .102 mm. I don't know what your feeler gauges read but mine are inch top number and mm bottom number.

I just reset my valves. I set them to .10mm (my feeler gauges only show mm. goes from 0.05 to 1.0. So I found a website that shows me the mm for .004 inches = .1016mm (I hope just .10 is close enough to .1016?) Anyay, I JUST did change them to that for both. I will see how this works. I want to thank you for your input and help. Have a wonderful weekend and I am sure I will be back on here tomm with SOMETHING ELSE LOL You ALL are very helpful.

Also check for a vacuum leak. It's common to make a tiny mistake when putting the carb back on.
