My buddy has a 150cc vip peace sport. It runs great, nothing is wrong with it. But after 50 it just wont go any farther. He says it feels just a cars rev limiter. We put my no rev cdi on it, and it made no difference. Is there a governor? If so where can i locate it? And how do i remove it?

Just about all the 150s stock will only do 50 some may do little over 50, so it may be that is all she wrote. Here are 2 things to know: 1. What are the RPMS at 50mph. 2. Is the belt climbing high on the Variator. Take the CVT cover off and mark the Variator and run it at WOT and see how much of a mark is left on the Variator. Wile Mark it like this respond with the RPMS and Mark left on Variator:

Downhill or pushing it off the GRAND CANYON DOES NOT COUNT. I can roll a damn bowling bowl down hill and it will pick up speed. What counts is what the bike can do on a flat straight away. Wile

That is the point! Even downhill it stops at 50...

Tell me what the RPMS are and mark the variator, it could have very low gearing in the tranny. Which would mean it has a hell of a get up and go but no top end. Like I said if you do not have a TACH on it I suggest you get one they are cheap and a MUST for tuneing. It tells you a lot of what the motor is doing or not doing and will point you in what is wrong. Here is a very nice tach that registers without any delay and can be installed in 5 minutes. Just wrap it around the coil wire and mount it and way you go. Cannot help much without some detail information otherwise it is just a guessing game. Wile trailtech.net/tto.html

From what I discovered, top speed has to do with a few things.
All GY6s come with the same final gearing so if you own a scoot with big wheels, it will have a higher top speed than a scoot with a tiny wheel like mine which has a 10 incher. All things being stock.
Another thing keeping you from going faster than 50mph is most likely the aerodynamics of your scooter itself. If your scoot has a wide frontal area, it has a very high coefficient of drag and the small amount of torque that a GY6 puts out isn't enough to push your scoot to go faster. If your scooter has a small pointy frontal area, like lets say a Kymco Agility 125, it provides better aerodynamics. In fact, an Agility 125 has a top speed of 59 real mph and that's with a 125cc motor. I haven't tested it out yet but I don't think my 150cc scooter will do 59mph.
Also, if you run a completely stock trans, then most likely you have 15gram or 17 gram variator weights so at full throttle, these climb high up on the variator ramp and this in turn pushes out your clutch all the way. This is the highest gear ratio your scoot could achieve and this might put your scoot out of its torque range and this combined with the aerodynamic wall will conspire to keep you going any faster unless you add more power and change the final gearing of your scoot.
I don't feel my theory is out of line. I've seen from this forum and numerous others where people claim to be able to get their stock scoots past 60mph on a nice long stretch and I don't doubt them knowing what I know about the relationship between power, aerodynamics and gearing.

That is the point! Even downhill it stops at 50... I wonder if the belt is shot (loose), and beyond 50mph it gets to slapping violently/resonating or something - causing so much drivetrain drag that it won't go any faster...? IOW - time for a new belt, maybe? Or the wind's blowing the brake levers back!

lol, moat if it didnt have the brush guards over the brake handles maybe All i wanna know is, if there is a Governor where is it how do i take it off? we dont wanna play the problem solving game. we already decided if we cant find a governor we are gonna sell it. So.....plz?

Over 50 can be easily built up. A simple main jet swap, open element air filter and less restrictive exhaust has put my current daily ride to a gps verified 60 on flats. Stock it would absolutely not have come close to that. 50 if you were lucky.

Some CDI have circuitry in them to retard timing reducing the power but not out-right killing the spark. This keeps them in the ungoverned category and is how most small engines keep from blowing apart without killing the spark. You can test if your timing is being retarded by connecting a timing light and marking a position on the crankshaft or a bell housing and revving it to max. If your spark timing moves towards retarded then you've got the limiting circuitry (but it is still not governed just limited by power output).

if your doing 50 on a straight stretch and you can only hit 50 down hill then there is no question there is a problem somewhere! and its probably something simple.
