I've had my 2011 Jonway YY250T scooter for a few months now, and thought I would post this issue I've been having. It seems like every 3 days or so, I go to start the scooter and it's completely dead. Either barely having enough power to turn over, or nothing at all when I go to start it. Not being to savvy on bikes or engines (I'm a computer guy), I bought a replacement battery and charged it up, and the same thing happens. I've done some reading online and some people say it could possibly be a "Voltage regulator" problem, which could be draining the battery. I've looked up a picture online, and found it on the scooter, but I have no idea where to begin to start taking the body apart to get to the regulator which is nestled above the muffler. I'm game for trying to take it apart, but has anyone else ran into this battery dying problem? And on that note, is anyone from the Pittsburgh, PA area that would be thrilled and honored to help me?

If the scoot has a remote start and or alarm those are notorious for sucking the battery dry. Wile

I highly recommend installing a Battery Tender in your scooter. First, the batteries on these things aren't the best. Second, a Battery Tender will extend the life of your battery. It will keep it fully charged. If you happen to be away from home when your battery goes dead, you're a lot better off looking for an outlet to plug into than just about anything else.
My Battery Tender is wired right into my electrical system now and I just plug it in when I get home.

First thing you should do is determine what voltage your scooter will output into a fully charged battery at 4000 RPM. It should be in the 13.5-14.7 Volt range. If it isn't your charging system is inoperative. While it's not a 100% diagnosis It will start you on the right path if you have this information.

I have a battery maintainer wired directly to the battery to recharge it when needed, but for the time being, I just found the hot cable that controls the power to the bike and just rigged a switch to it in which I shut off when I'm not using the scooter overnight. I haven't had to plug it in since. Once I get a few other issues ironed out, I'll look back into the charging system part, but it seems like a lot of posts I read online show that the clock/alarm drain the battery the most on this model scooter.

The clock/alarm pulls so little it's not important, maybe if you let it sit for 6 months? Haven't started mine for up to 3 months with no tender and it has started. Also bought a good 14AH/210CCA battery which makes a difference.

I replaced the battery already with an Everstart from Walmart, and after a few days of sitting, it was dead as well.

The same thing is happening to me! It's driving me nuts! I don't know why these new batteries keep dying! My scooter is brand new! Only 150 miles! I use it every day and it seems that the scooter isn't charging the battery.

it is not uncommon to have a dead cell/loose internal connection in the battery, in any type of vehicle. typically a load test will indicate a bad battery.
I had a new one die within 2 months, it did not recharge to 12v it stayed at 3.4 volts.. the supplier sent a new one as it was under warranty..
i have a factory alarm/remote start and it will last 14 days before draining the battery if not used..
i added a solar charger that i can unplug from the battery..for $20 bucks at a car show/swap meet it was not a bad investment

I replaced the battery already with an Everstart from Walmart, and after a few days of sitting, it was dead as well. You weren't listening. I said a good battery, Walmart batteries are junk. About 7 to 9AH rating at the most. www.apexbattery.com/Lot's of options with this company, my battery is for a jet ski and fits like a glove. Don't own a trickle charger or battery tender and don't have the dead battery problem. As they say you get what you pay for.

hello guys i'm having the same problem. I moved all my green wires ground wires sanded the paint on the frame, and bolted them down. Also changed the diode, changed the rectifier, and the battery. My battery died in two days. I took it to this battery shop and they tested the system and told me that the system wasn't charging the battery. I would like to know if the stator is the last thing in the charging system. thanks ernest

I had the same problem on my YY250T. Change the voltage reg.!!! you do not need to take the body apart. It should be held on by one bolt facing towards the outside of the bike. I used a small crescent wrench (10mm) should be the right size. It is a tight fit and took me a while. While you are in there check the plugs to make sure they are snug together. Now mine runs great and haven't had to recharge it and I am using the factory battery. Don't take the body off. I tried and it was a mistake!
