Hi all,
this is my first time on the forum and I am asking for some advice. My friend has a Silverado 150cc that has been standing since last fall. I have done the basic checks, charged the battery then checked the spark, nice fat blue spark present.
Then I removed the carburetor and cleaned it out, (it was actually amazingly clean and the jets etc got a good blow out), then the gas tank came off for a good clean.
I did notice a solenoid with two wires attached to the carb. Is this a fuel cut off solenoid or is it some kind of cold starting device to richen the mixture on cold starting?
whatever it is it does not seem to do anything...when removed from the carb it does not move when either the ignition is on or the engine is cranked....there is continuity down the wiring from where it plugs into the loom....on checking the loom there is power to plug in connector on the loom under the starter motor only.....is this normal, it seems strange that it would only power it on the starter button and nothing once you let it go? Is this malfunctioning and if not is there anything else with these scooters that i need to check whilst i have it apart.
Thanks all, any help most appreciated.

What your talking about is the ENRICHER(CHOKE), it only works when the motor is running. BY DEFAULT when cold the Plunger is retracted and allows fuel to flow for COLD STARTS. Once the motor starts it then sends juice to the ENRICHER and as it heats up the PLUNGER starts to EXTEND out about 1/4 inch and after about 3-4 minutes it completely shuts off the extra fuel for COLD STARTS. It stays this way EXTENDED all the while the motor is running and providing juice to the ENRICHER. Once you shut the motor off it then starts to cool and the PLUNGER starts to RETRACT so the next COLD start it again feeds extra fuel for starting. Wile

Wile,
thanks for the heads up, so it is all good if there is no instant reaction to powering up the enricher device without the motor running - thats one more thing ruled out..
do you have any other ideas on what to look out for on a non-starter besides cleaning through the fuel system and trying fresh gas, like I said it has a great spark...although under load once in the cylinder is another matter.
thanks.
