Hi there i was wondering if anyone could help me, ive just bought this scooter as a work horse as i didnt want to us my Aprillia RSV mille for work all the time. The thing is when ive been riding it the thing just stops! ive drained the fuel tank, replaced it with fresh fuel, it was stood for some time.Changed the fuel lines and fuel filter from the tank to the vacum fuel pump to the carb. Cleaned the carb out. Ive changed the spark plug with no joy its still doing the same thing! it runs fine when its running. When it does stop i press the manual choke on the carb a few times the scooter fires up and i get say another mile down the road!
Any help would be greatful
Cheers Phil

HI & WELCOME
sounds like not getting fuel if , when it stops u give it fuel, with the choke, then that my guess
how did u clean carb? run a very thin wire down every hole.
can u see fuel flowing when its running? or do u have black lines?

Hi there thanks for the fast reply, Yes I used a thin wire to clean out the jets, when I removed the carb bottom basin there wasnt any dirt in there and none of the jets were blocked. Ive just fitted clear lines to see if the fuel is flowing when its running which it is. I havent replaced the line from the vacum pump to the outlet manifold (think this is where the pump takes its air from?)

I've had the same problem. My carb has an automatic choke soi I cleaned and lubed that and it seems the problem lessened. I also put a different gas cap on with a slightly larger air hole for better flow. You will have to experiment with drilling out the hole to get the results you need but don't make it too large or you'll have leak problems under the gas door. Also there is a vent tube at the top of the gas tank. If you fill it up above the vent opening it seems to effect the flow of gas and will eventually stop. When that has happened, I pull the gas cap for a few seconds and replace it and start it up. Almost seems like a vapor-lock.

It hought aht you said it has been reliable right out of the crate....if you have to drill the gas cap and watch how you fill it, and it stops runnig....that is not too reliable? thanks for the input...I was sold on this bike but I may have to re-think it.

If it's just gas gap venting the simplest solution is to simply cut a very small slit in the gas cap seal. Usually the filler neck is at a slight angle, simply put the slit the the highest point. The filler neck and gas cap neck keeps pretty much all the gas out. I've never had a problem with gas leaking out doing this and it seems to solve any tank venting issues the easiest way.
