When I try to fire my bike up all she does is click and the lights dim to almost nothing. The battery is brand new and fully charged. I was told that perhaps it's the starter. Is there a way to test that without getting another starter?

A short in the solenoid or starter motor could definitely shunt all the battery current, causing that no start issue. Typically I'd say a weak battery, but you say it's new. Something is drawing all that current, so look closely over the ignition circuit for any shorts.

A solenoid which is electro-mechanical switch will click when its bad and so will a battery will a bad or low cell . By pass the solenoid and it should start right up its thats the problem

kickstand up? might sound dumb buy my v5 has a safety switch in the stand and when i first bought it i killed the battery not knowing that.

1.) weak battery - check voltage should be 12.7V or higher with no load. Above 12.4 with lights on. 2.) weak battery capacity - check voltage when you try to start - should be above 11V 3.) stuck/burnout starter - disconnect & test for resistance . Don't know what the Ohm reading should be, perhaps someone here may know. Touch battery straight to starter for a second, does it turn. Could be stuck & that may just get it released. Hope this helps.

If it clicks when you press the start button, it is usually a bad Solenoid or battery, to check if its your solenoid jump the two terminals on the RELAY with a screwdriver or anything if it spins your starter replace the solenoid. pete

Sure. to "test" the starter in place i just short across the starter solenoid with a large screw driver. If you don't get a fat spark either the starter is screwed up or there is low voltage getting to the solenoid. If you have jumper cables hook up to the car. Connect the black cable to both the cars engine and the motors engine. Now hook the red to the cars positive battery terminal and then top the other end of the red cable to where the start cable attaches to the starter. If you Don't get a fat spark now and the starter tries to run, you have a screwed up starter
Take it off and test it directly before you order a new one.

Is there a way to test that without getting another starter? the "click" you hear is the solenoid engaging. the solenoid is working. here are a few things to check: starter circuit connections. have the starter tested. have the battery load tested. starter bendix locked up. engine seized. make certain the connections at the starter, solenoid, and battery are clean and solid. make sure the connecting parts are the color they are supposed to be, no greenish corrosion, black stuff or anything else. sandpaper these connections. don't forget the thick black ground. it should run from one of the starter mounting screws directly to the battery negative. i have never seen a solenoid drain the battery like you state when engaged, they just fail to work. i don't think there is a test for an installed starter. the engine itself can lock the starter in certain conditions. my best guess would be corrosion at the connections and/ or a bad starter.
