i just started working on a 1995 yamaha jog ive had and i cant get it to start no matter how many hours i put into it, it used to be that the scooter would stall out when i would rev up but now it wont even start. i already cleaned the jets out in the carb which made no difference bc it still wont start. i also checked the fuel valve which is working and of course i checked the spark plug which is also fine. the only thing that might do it is the air box which has a split seal but still it should atleast start its not that big of a leak. i do get some sort of a response if i put my hand over the intake on the carb but it still barely starts that way. i dont know what else it might be please give me an idea. thanks

Did you check the compression? Did you check the spark, grounding to the engine? Its just air, spark, fuel, so one thing is not in the proper proportion.

Was the plug touching a metal part of the bike when you kicked it?
Make sure the kickstand is up too btw.

thanks for you help so far ppl, does anybody have any other ideas, im thinking that stuff got in the engine when the airbox fell off a long time ago while i was riding it (which i just remembered) this is when the problem started so im thinking about rebuilding the engine but i have no experience so ill see how that goes tommorow.

Try putting the spark plug back in, and kick starting it with no starter fluid. Open the throttle as you do it.
Take the plug back out after a few kicks, if it is wet then you are getting fuel. This would suggest that the fuel is old, and it needs fresh fuel because it won't ignite the old stale stuff.
If the plug is dry, you are not getting fuel. This means that the float in the carb could be bent, meaning no fuel is getting to the carb.
Hope this helps

How many miles on it ? Do you hear or feel any blowby when kickstarting it ? You may need rings replaced as they do wear out and are very cheap . You can go to any auto-parts store with loan a tool program and hasa compression gauge . You screw it into the sparkplug hole and turn it over to get a reading . The kickstart should feel if compression has went down from when you first got .

Forgot to say check the rubber intake manifold for cracks or holes . My Honda Cr125 got dry rotted and had an instant power loss . Changed the intake and was zooming again .
Also check the 2T oil level if you have an injector . Some have a engine disabler to prevent engine damage if out of or too low on 2T oil

Wait, are you saying you found fishing line INSIDE your engine? Like as in inside the combustion chamber? which O ring was the fishing line wrapped around?
