Any opinions on Marvel's Mystery Oil? I read a post that said it was good for small engines. Any ideas good or bad?

I've used it on the Vstar. Didn't see any improvment. What do you want to do with it? Possibly seafoam would be better.

I've read that it was a good upper cylinder lube and keeps stuff clean. I thought maybe that might work for a scoot also?

Used to add MMO to the tank on old Mercury outboards we rebuilt for racing. You could set them up a lot tighter. They would soft sieze without the MMO until they broke in. It didn't take much, about 3 ounces to a gallon, with the regular oil. 2 stroke oil wasn't special then, unless you wanted to mess with castor oil.

Like many things, MMO had it's place and time. Any good quality oil will do a superb job of lubricating and all name brand gas has detergent additives to clean the top cylinder. Won't hurt to use it but I, personally, don't think there is any benefit today.

Yes it's me. They're all me, some at earlier ages in my teens. Oh not the avatars. Now back to scooters guys. By the way the energy conserving oils (as per label on the bottle) should not be used. Apparently there are additives that eat gaskets in motorcycles and scooters.

I use it when refurbishing old rotted out motorcycles. It's good for cleaning out gas tanks, carbs etc..
Also good for cleaning out fuel systems on any type of engine. I first found out about it when asking a older guy who was a jack of all trades how to derust the inside of a gas tank without sun venting and sand blasting. It cleaned the gunked and rusted tank out on a 75 kawasaki kz400 almost over night.

And where did all that gunk and rust go?. Think of what would happen if you ran the bike with all that stuff loose inside.

And where did all that gunk and rust go?. Think of what would happen if you ran the bike with all that stuff loose inside. I used a half of gallon of gas with a quart of marvel mystery oil. I closed the tank up with it inside and shook it up and left it over night. The next evening I shook it up again and dumped it and burnt it. I also cleaned the tank out with more gas afterwards. It saved the fuel nozzle and screen too. The bike had been sitting out back of a lawnmower shop for almost a decade with no plugs. The mystery oil and a rubber hammer loosened the pistons.

I've heard that MMO is not compatable w buna/nitrile rubber, ...makes it swell. So, I'd be careful using it around low-temperature seals & o-rings.

I've use seafoam, seems to be a better cleaner and less likely to over degunk at once. Used in marine engines and motorcycles, can be bought at Napa Parts.

You can use seafoam either by installing it in the oil, gas, or sucking it through a vacuum port. If you suck it through a vacuum port you might make your neighbors mad because of all the smoke but it works very well.

LOL, this thread has gone off and on topic so many times...
To keep things organized, why don't some of us create a new thread all about how hot/cool/"wrenchable?" Jacine is, and keep the topics oriented?
I had a moment at work, so I was reading this thread at my desk... and after scrolling past some (admittedly good looking) pictures of Jacine, my co-workers started to take notice and come see what I'm looking at. I told them it was a technical mechanics message board, but I know what they're all thinking... Hyproscooters, THAT gets an Oy Vei!

::)Right on Dishe... Jacine deserves respect, and her own thread.. but i'll bet that thread will go on for pages with every member (male mostly) commenting on how hot she is and if thats not enough she IS PROBABLY if not THE smartest female i have even known to put a wrench to a piece of machinery!! Added by edit: My wife sends Jacine a High Five for the pic and says "Tell her to show those guys what a girl can do, we are not all dumb blondes" and then she proceeds to say "Finally a hot chick to put you guys in check!" Ok now she is finished looking over my shoulder making sure i give Jacine the credit she deserves.. dont you all want a wife like mine Oh and now she really really wants a scoot... "THAT gets an Oy Vei!"
