I bought a junk scooter from a friend and got it running and its running hot and the idle was set really high and there's oil in the exhaust.... I ran regular gas in it and I'm wondering if its a 2 stroke and if I need to put oil in the gas.... how do I tell if its a 2 stroke and not a 4

Easiest and simple way is to look for a dipsick, typically it's located near the cooling fan. If you see one it's a 4T.

that too and check the side of the motor, if you see a number like 139QMB or 1P39QMB it's a 4T if you see a P2NB or something similar it's a 2T

Thanks guys its a 2 stroke... hope I didn't screw up the rings and cylinders to bad by running it without oil

OMG! I'm glad I read this post. I've been beating myself up trying to find a way to check the oil in the IB Snow Leopard which is the Yamaha Virago "clone" motor. Where I put the oil in there is NO dipstick and this is a 4 stroke engine. Now I will look for the cooling fan for the dipstick.

Are you putting oil in a hole with rubber plug on the left side of the scooter? Is it on top of the engine cover? Or do you fill on the right side at the bottom of the engine? |
