Do you plan on keeping it garaged or outside? If outside, you definitely need to clean/polish the metals at least once every couple weeks i'd imagine. I use a squeeze-bottle substance called "brasso" and it is very good at taking off rust and polishing.
Don't forget to do frequent oil changes while you are still breaking it in. During this break-in period, most people prefer 10w-40 conventional or thicker (higher numbers) to protect their engine. I use Valvoline conventional 10w-40, it's cheap, it works great. Just don't go synthetic in the first 1000 miles.
I'd replace the gear oil too while you're at it. You really don't know what kind of crap the previous owner has in there (if they ever replaced it at all during the break-in period). Any gear oil that has GL3 certification will be sufficient.
Have fun with that new scoot, love that color!

Oh, its garaged, but still will be cleaning and polishing the metal often. I am about 1.5 miles from the beach, so I have to be on guard for rust. I will check out that Brasso, thanks!
As for the oil, I checked it and it was not low and the right color, so I have driven it 30 miles already, having recieved it with 733 miles. I am going to change it at 800 miles, so probably this weekend. I planned on doing the gear oil too I have already watched and bookmarked the Flyscooters Youtube Oil Change video, so I should be cool.
The previous owner said he changed the gear oil every time he changed the oil, which was at 20, 100 and 500 he said. I know I have to take that with a big grain of salt, but like I said in a different post, the guys harley and garage were spotless and well cared for, and he was a Coronado Fireman, so I have to give him benefit of the doubt for attention to detail.
I will take that advice and get that oil changed soon.
Thanks for the tips.. I should have more pics up soon, including the detailed pictures of the damage from the drop that forced its sale. I am fine with it for now, while I am learning, but will probably try to touch it up at some point, advice will be welcome.

Sounds like you bought it from someone who cared about his scoot. Even if he changed the oil half as often as he stated, I think you're in a position better than most.
The previous owner of my fixer upper I just bought had the oil filled all the way up to the dipstick threads. Sigh.

Hey guys, I'm back. And I'd really appreciate some input from the experts.
ZootScootRiot - thanks for that windscreen info! I've been looking for one that fits that's not the ugly universal one!
I've got most of my issues straightened out now but still having an issue with fuel starving when I WOT. It'll go about a mile or so, then just quit on me. I tried the Mikuni fuel pump, and it seemed to work a bit then died and wouldn't re-start until I primed the carb and put the stock pump back on. Think the Mikuni pump is defective?
Also, getting a grinding sound when I partially apply the front brake. Sound stops when I apply fully, and stops ok. I blew them out with an air gun thinking some grit was stuck up in the pads and it seemed to work for a minute, but then came back. I'm seeing some scraping on my disc just on the inner 1/8 inch or so. Think somethings loose or pads just worn out?....I do a lot of stop and go neighborhood riding on my dawgwalking route.
Anyone know where I can get a shop manual for my Vintage 150? I downloaded and printed the Scootdawg manual, and it's great for a lot of things, but it doesn't tell me a thing about ABS disc brakes. The scoot in the manual has drum brakes only. Even a link to something more relevant would be extremely helpful.

OH yeah, I developed some slight oil leaks when I switched over to synthetic my last oil change. Anyone else have this problem? I guess synthetic oil has smaller molecules or something?

Also, Zoot, any more info you can give about mounting that flyscreen would be helpful. Did you have to get extra hardware for our 1" bars?...It looks like that thing screw mounts somewhere other than the handlebars. I'm ordering one from Garner's Classic Scooters in Texas, they list them for only $46.

hello, been awhile. We have 2 lance vintages bought back during the gas crisis.. Just wanted to say that they are both still working, no issues. I tried to do AJ's recommendations for pre-ride but was daunted by all the body panels . I changed the fluids, both oil and gear, checked the gas tank for foreign objects, and had to adjust the breaks on both vehicles. (they need another adjustment) I broke it in according to the forums rec's or AJ's about riding hard, idle, ride hard, idle. I get to 55 maybe 60. My seat lock broke too! One had a bad headlight. Umm...fingers crossed i am not jinxing myself but this has been well worth it!! We saved a bunch of money going internet order with it drop shipped. A local dealer was asking like 3k for these but of course he pre-ride set upped for you and had a maintenance department. He is now out of business!! so I guess I did well not paying extra for 'dealer support' ....

xof,
If you change the air filter for a K&N, you don't need to do anything. They have about the same air flow as a stock paper filter...
If you change it to a foam UNI, then you may be running leaner and you must change the throttle needle and adjust the air/fuel mixture.
If you think you will get 65+ mph you are dreaming dawg. Maybe with a big bore, tuned exhaust and tuned CVT etc... Oh ya, 10" wheels suck at this kinda speed...
Changing jets are a myth that I wish would go away!! Sure there are times when they do make improvements, but not just adding an air filter.
People have to get over 'jet envy'!

Ok so what I am seeing is youtube is filtering out content on hopping up scooters. Question? If no rev limiter cdi boxes exist why cant we use a kaw 1000 points conversion to digital cdi. Just use the box that can be dialed in with adjustable dwell and rev for a custom cdi box? Both are 12 volt. What about a Power Commander box off of a yamaha big twin? Its a scooter reveloution happening now.
