I'm new to the forum thing, and hope I'm doing this right, but I have just joined the scooter world recently by buying a used Roketa Fiji 150 from a friend of mine....It has a little over 4000 miles on it and still runs and performs great. The only thing wrong with it is that it's making a rattling type noise that sounds like it's coming from the fan area, only at idle, no other time can it be heard, but I removed the cover and inspected it, couldn't find anything abnormal, the sound is deeper than that.......Any ideas?.......Another friend has one just like it with only 800 miles, his doesn't make any noise at all, is this just a characteristic of mine having that many miles, or is there something wrong with it?.......I have changed the rearend grease, and the oil, both looked pretty normal, motor doesn't smoke a bit, and is pretty dry considering the mileage..............Any help would be appreciated..........Mac

Mac, the exhaust systems on these critters are prone to 2 problems, loose flanges on the exhaust manifold header pipe and internal failures of the muffler internals. Both are typical sources of rattling noises. The loose flange is an easy fix though you may need to add some lockwashers to prevent it from happening again. The internal muffler failure is typically a replacement fix.
These things are fairly simple beasts, there's no rocket science here so you should be able to fix most anything that you find wrong.

Mac Since the fan and exhaust are on the same side and you took the fan cover off and found nothing wrong I too would suspect the exhaust has either a broken baffle of somthing. Noises are real hard to diagnose off the internet they are one of those had to be there situations. The part where it's onlu at idle is throwing me off a bit though usually exhaust noises vary by RPM at some RPM's they are quite pronounced and others not there at all... sort of a resonance thing. Check the engine for any loose or cracked heat shields or other covers too. You'll find it I'm sure. 4000 is not a lot of miles for the GY6 there are some out there with well over 10,000 on em.

one more thing to check if you are competent with a wrench. I had a rattle in that area and found the locking nut for the starter clutch was loose and rattling against the right hand engine cover. if you really want to to check this out you have to remove that cover. it can be done with the engine still mounted in the frame. make sure you put an oil pan under it as there is still oil held in that area even after you drain the oil via the plug.
Also the starter clutch uses a sprague clutch, if the oil has not been changed regularly these can go bad real fast and so ruling out all other possibly sources of this rattle, I would be fairly certain that this will be the source of the noise.

You might need to use an automotive stethascope to listen as to about where the rattle is coming from. But I agree with the others in that it is probably a loose internal part in the muffler. I just had a new rattle appear yesterday, and I at first thought it was the trunck lid. But it turned out that the rearmost muffler mounting clamp had broke off at the sharp bend there it bolts to the mounting bracket. It made a noisy rattle at about 7,000 rpm.

I have the exact same problem that started right at 500 miles on a 150cc GY6 engine..tracked it down to the inside of the stock muffler. Now to figure out a cheap fix until I can replace it.

In my case the weld for one of the studs holding the heat shield on the muffler cracked, causing the heat shield to rattle. A hose clamp was a temporary fix.

Encountered same problem.. a rattle at idle and during revs// turned out to be the kick starter.. It had loosen and worked its' way closer to the cover.. so when revving.. it would rattle. Isolated to it by riding and placing my left foot on it to see if it would go away.. Thats' really the only rattle I have gotten, besides the pinging.

My rattle came from the chrome plated panel that was bolted onto the outside of the muffler. The chrome was just a fancy cover for the ugly black muffler. Once I tightened down the bolts that held the fancy chrome on, at idle the sound went away.
