ok , I received the kit this afternoon. the kit included 59MM cylinder, Big 2 valve head, Hi performance cam and 2mm stroker crank. I immediately tore into this project as the weather here sucked rainy and 80 degrees Ok so the tear down. I took apart the engine, it looked to be invery good shape still for having 2000 hard chinameters on it. everything was clean no scuff marks in the cylinder or on the piston skirt. everything wwas very clean except the piston top and combustion chamber. It must have had a fairly even deposit of carbon maybe a half MM deep. I'm going to start running marvel mystery oil mixed in the gas. this should take care of that issue. The kick start gear was a serious pain in the assss to get off. it took a 7 ton gear puller and a nice size hammer to finally get it off the crank. reassembly, All the parts fit back together easily and without modification. the supplied wrist pin was too long so I used the old one. it fit perfect. I only had to grind the middle ring to get to .008" the rest of the rings were spot on. It comes with a very interesting piston. in addition to the oil cooling ports in the oil scraper groove it also had 2 sets of oil ports below the oil scraper groove. maybe for better oil cooling of the piston skirt or lower cylinder? The head has a 30 MM intake port, thats going to breath real nice. My flywheel had 2 marks for alignment, one marked with a T and the other marked with an F. I aligned the cam to the T mark as this was top dead center. the F mark appears to be ignition timing. I have the engine almost back together. I need to adjust the valve lash, carb and exhaust and hook the electrical back up. then I'll try running. oh yeah i didnt put the kick start gear back on. so no kick start from this point forward. Anyway thats all I have to report so far. tomorrow I'll finish it and take it out for a ride. I took pictures and will post them up to my site and link them here.

Ok, HUGE problem. I had to reinstall the the kick start gear and put all the kick start components back in. there is so much compression that the starter cant deal with it. Hopefully this will get better as the new parts break in, but for now its kick start only. there was so much compression that lil ol me ( 6-2, 210 punds) had to jump on kick lever to get it to fire. once fired it ran perfect. I havent had it on the road yet. will do that this afternoon and report back

Sweeeeet !!! Do you really think it was the compression ??, you didnt put back the chain tensioner wrong so it just have more resistance .. hehehe good luck buddy, i know you will be a happy camper.. Tahnk god for my little Taiwanese m8 ;o) Marcus

yes its compression and the fact that its new. after I ran it , the electric starter started it. but thats while the engine was hot

Job well done fuzzman. Be careful with that kick start. Those aren't the strongest mechanisms in the world. I've always thought the gears should be twice as beefy.

thanks dawg!! These things really are easy machines to work on. the tear down on the stock engine after 2000 chinometers tells me this engine with proper maintenance could easily see 15K or more. There was absolutely no bearing wear, no scuffs at all on the cylinder or piston. the wrist pin that came out looked brand new as did the crank. the factory honing marks were still visible on the cylinder wall. The only limiting factor I saw was the carbon build up, which i would call excessive. running a cap full of marvel mystery oil in every other tank of gas would have kept that clean as well. I am really impressed with this engine, I would put it up there in quality with the Honda made units.
OK on to the first ride report. I let the engine warm up for about 5 minutes I did notice some noise from the valve cover, sounds like I need to adjust the valves again. I immediately noticed that the power band is much wider and it provides smooth power accross the entire rpm range. taking off from a dead stop, full throttle I ran over one of the lane markings and the rear wheel stepped out, ( reminder not to do that after a beer or 2), I held full throttle to max speed. the speedo was buried and I didnt have the GPS with me. ( will do that next). the engine runs very smooth compared to the stock unit. very little of the infamous one lunger vibrations. The rotating assembly is balanced as good as I think it can get. The manufacturer claims 20% increase in power. Seems reasonable maybe a little less than that.
for the comparison; I started with a stock engine, with the 30mm keihin CVK and hi performance intake, the PFS V8 exhaust. ( this was a big jump in performance over the stock unit) . QAdding the parts in this kit gave it even more power and smoothed the engine out. Did I say smooth? damn its smooth

I have not measured my stroker since high school but I am pretty sure it is longer than 59mm ;D
On a more serious note: Jackthefuzz did you take pics of this tear-down and modification? If so I would like to see them.

Yeas I have some pictures, and will get them up. OK day 2 and the engine has loosened up sufficiently to allow the starter to start it without problem. Big power out of this package, this can easily pull the 17/36 gear set now and that wil be the next and final mod. now that I've changed everything I can LOL and the wife is getting ummmmmm annoyed. I keep telling her its cheaper than the boat, she isnt buying it!

I saw this kit in ebay, I have a question, do you chek the bore with vernier caliper, that is really 59mm of bore?

I readjusted the the valve lash to .005" and while its quieter than before there is still alot valve noise coming from the engine. could this be the cam profile?

What did you have the gap at before? Clearance spec should be around .002". Some guys think it performs better at around .003". Was there a different spec in the instructions for the kit?

Better to play it safe and order a kit when i know if my brother in law buys a real 50cc scoot for her. I guess im safe after that, offcourse i will be changing stuff on her 50 scoot to, but thats another story M

hey fuzzball i would ike the kit. thanks for offering it to me. pdaddy tell ya wife that you want to expand you knowlage of the 4 stroke motor and to do so would require some "tools" order the kit and call it a learning tool

sartech, send me your address to dj@meridian-prime.com and I will ship the parts that you see in the photos above + the camshaft. You are going to need to get gaskets, a wrist pin and circlips and you will need new rocker arms ( the rockers in your photo are shot) and finally you should replace the oil pump.
