Hi everyone, I'm new here, and I will be buying a scooter in the very near future. We are a one car family and my wife uses our Honda Accord for work and I take the bus to work. (hopefully not too much longer. I've pretty much decided to get a chinese 150cc scooter and save some money. (I'm mecanically inclined and don't mind doing my own maintanence) Anyways, I was reading ScootDawg's article and interview with Mathu Solo , President of LS MotorSports. It's pretty interesting I notice the Diamo Fury scooter that LS MotorSports sells is an exact mirror image of the Tank Urban Touring 150. It's obvious they are built by the same manufacturer, perhaps KTMMEX? Now my question: Is there any improvement in the reliability, quality of materials, loose bolts etc. in the Diamo Fury as opposed to the Tank scooter? Wouldn't you think that these scooters are rolling off of the same assembly line with the same quality standards no matter what brand name gets slapped on them? Can anyone shed some light on this situation? By the way, a local scooter dealer here in Florida has a silver KTMMEX 150cc scooter exactly like the ones I mentioned previously, except it says "sunny" on the side of it. Oh, one more thing, they also had a 50cc scooter next to it with the brand name "wussy" on the side. ;D ;D I swear I saw it with my own eyes!! Happy Scootering, Charlie

Charlie yes the Diamo looks like a Tank Touring or vice versa but the similarites stop there. The Diamo is a top notch scoot with a SYM designed ceramic lined GY6 clone engine. Wiring, rubber parts, tires, belt, fit and finish etc. should all be superior on the Diamo. Of the Diamo scoots I've seen the Fury is one of their better done units. Diamo is dealer only sales (no internet) and has good parts support and warranty. Only drawback is at $2499 msrp you can buy a Tank Touring and a Wussi 50(LOL) Seriously though the Diamo is a great scoot. Tank can be great too. It's all a question of your finances and how big a gamble you want to take. It's often worth the extra money to have a dealer to support you.

Hi Aaron, nice to meet you.
So, what your saying is that LS MotorSports has the factory build their scoots to their own specifications which are fairly strigent.
It was mentioned in the article that there are only 4-6 manufacturing plants that pretty much build all the chinese scooters you see on the market, all the rest are assembly plants.
Do you really think that's true?

No, that's not exactly true. It's probably true with the vast majority of Chinese scoots but there are several that stand out in several ways. You need to consider three things and the trade off with price.
1. Initial quality. Don't assume that since they look the same that they are. Several companies work hard to improve quality. They will use parts from quality vendors from all over the world.
2. Parts and warranty support. Some companies such as U.M., Strada and Diamo are very good with this.
3. Local dealer vs. internet sales. Local dealer will prep and repair your scoot. If you buy internet....you are on your own.
All three factors that work to your advantage cost money.

I also found the samething looking for my new scoot. models that look the same but have different names on them. (by the way ACD you get some kudos from me for helpin me out) this is the stuff that makes it hard. i searched the name to see if they had a model that looks like the one i want this is what i found about the KTMMEX VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV C & K, Inc. Is a direct distributor of KTMMEX Motorcycle. KTMMEX is the only manufacturer of TANK brand name products. We are a USA based company providing Import Wholesale Distribution services of TANK brand Power Sports Products to Wholesaler & Retailers all across the U.S.A. And Export Services to other countries as well. C & K, Inc. Specializes in Import Wholesale Distribution of Tank brand Quality DOT EPA CARB Approved products. We have some of the cheapest, and lowest wholesale prices on the market for high quality power sports products, Street legal wholesale motorcycles, Wholesale Gas Scooters, Wholesale ATV'S, Wholesale Dirt Bikes, and Wholesale Go-Karts. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ so this just screwed me up even more that it read this KTMMEX is the only manufacturer of TANK and that the strada looks like the tank sporty 150 this pic is a urban sporty 150 i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/69ne1/urban-racer150.jpgand this one of a strada racing 150 i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/69ne1/strada_racing_150cc_product.jpgthis is what messes me up. i also thought that there could only be a few scooter makers and the different names on the scooter are like "dodge with shadow, sundance and the plymouth car" but then i've see that people think the tank's are crappy and strada's are the better. so is it that the scooters in the pics above come off different assembly lines and that is what makes one better than the other. the diamo tracer looks just like the verucci avispa i want to get Please throw a a junior dawg a bone

There are so many rip-offs. The Strada picture wasn't a Strada at all. The original source for any Strada you buy should be Powersporsfactory.com. Good Lord, I'm going to demote myself to puppydawg until folks start doing a little homework.

scootertrash,
Basically all of the Chinese scooters use the same body designs. Aside from the labels you cannot tell the difference. However, just because they look the same does not mean they are the same. It is the quality of the internal components that makes the difference. It would be a wise decision to find out who the manufacturer is before you buy any model. Also do NOT go by the pictures shown on the various websites you see online to determine the brand/manufacturer. I can tell you right now that a Diamo is a higher quality product than Verucci even though they might look exactly the same. In the world of Chinese scooters the saying "do not judge a book by it's cover" could not be more true.

ddillon
ok so then all the GY6 engines do not come from one plant?? They are made in house at the different companys??
I was thinking that the engines were made and sold to each company to put on their scoots.
dawg
this is homework. so far this has been the best resorce on the web. so sorry for asking questions to try to better my knowledge on products and scooters. so as i make the best choice in scooter, parts and place to get them from

Mike try it this way. The Chinese government theoretically owns everything in China. Someone brings in a scooter reverse engineers it and issues blueprints. The chinese government can give this blueprint to any company that wishes to build one. The rub here is that the Chinese have figured out like we did that a State run facility manned by state employees do not produce the best quality products. So they started to allow "private" ownership of companies. Now owners and employees have a real and tangible $$$$$ reason to produce quality products both A. commanding higher price and B. building company reputation thus increasing future business. QJ is one such company. Don't ask me for more I'm fat redneck from Maine and it hurts thinking like this!! The better scooter brands Diamo, QJ, UM etc. are built by such companies. BUT!!! any machine can be a piece of sh!$ Even Lexxus' break. The cheaper scoots are improving every shipment. I doubt a year ago my Terminator would have had a Gates drive belt, Chen Shin tires, Yuassa battery, NGK plug, and decent rubber fuel lines. Now it does. The smaller companies in China that provide parts such as bodies, engines, clutches etc. are also improving as they got tired of companies rejecting delivered orders. The implementation of American and German quality control is doing wonders over there. The next couple years should bring impressive machines out of China. I only hope they buy stuff from us in return!

Hey Trash, no not all gy6 engines come from the same plant. As ACD was trying to explain, the economic situation in China is different but trying to catch up. The GY6 on the Diamo is produced in Taiwan.

Charlie,
Be careful what you say about Wussi scooters! I have a 250cc Wussi, and although the name is weird, it appears to be much better made than a lot of the Chinese scooters. The tires are decent quality, the rubber tubing appears good, and I was amazed to find that even the hose clamps a as good as any I've seen on a car. So far, my only compaints have been the mirror design (couldn't aim them properly no matter what I did, so I replaced them) and the fact that the gas gauage has never read anything except full. Oh yeh, the coolant was an indeterminate liquid collected from a latrine somewhere.
So far I haven't had to beat up anyone because of the brand name and I don't want to have to start with you (LOL)!

I am a Diamo Dealer! I have found them to be very responsive to my warranty claims and parts requests. They offer their dealers 100% parts garuantee!!!!! and Most of the time if something is wrong it is straight out of the box!. but so far I have not had but a few minor claims and actually nothing to do with the way they run at all!
Also I had a customer install performance top end and other goodies and his crankshaft siezed so I ordered another one (not mentioning who from) and that one siezed! after 5 miles. so I called diamo and picked it up at their warehouse and we compared all three and the crank was alot better quality than the stock, and the other stock one I purchased. This was on a 2001 sundiro 125 and he has been ripping it up on freeways and loves it. I'm actually only about 45 minutes from their warehouse and they do have alot of stock in parts! and have the manpower for their operation! I have also seen The Verruci distributor here in houston, no Parts just parts bikes and I only talked with one person and did not see any one else. I dont know if they have another distributor but this seemed realy shaddy also you can buy dirrectly from him as well ? I would get a Little extra bang for your buck and the fury is a realy nice and comfortable ride!! sorry for going on and on hope this helps in your decision making!

scootertrash; Stick with it. Learning about the Chinese scooter business - both in China and here in the U.S. - is a steep learning curve! We are all still learning. Just when we think we are getting a handle on things, they change. As others have said, there are a few Chinese assemblers who are known to produce bikes of generally good quality. Others are a crap shoot. My Roketa came from a company whose name sounds like they make scoots and rocket ships - Chongqing Astronautical Bashan Motorcycle ..... With some of the major importers here in the U.S. selling their own "Brand Name" line as well as supplying quantities of scoots (some of lesser quality) to anyone else who has the money and wants to stick their own name on them, it gets real confusing. Like others have said, don't go by the looks. Apparently there are only a few different body panel manufacturers in China and they copy all the popular models. Virtually no R&D or originality there. Not all the engines are the same. Some are poor quality in terms of the metallurgy of the parts. To get a dependable motor, CFMoto says they use American and Japanese parts in their 250 engines. Don't know about their other engines.

I looked at as the engines were all the same as far as the clones go. so THANK YOU for throwing me a bone!!!! now I ask in order can you tell me best to worse as far companys go for the GY6 clones. Now I'm going to search QJ to see if they make a model that is like the one i want to get.
also if you reply to this you can pm me so not to take away from Charlie's original topic

Scootertrash,
Yes QJ does make a model like the one you want to get. It is the Strada RX200HP. I am pretty sure that is the body style of the Verucci you said you liked. They also make the smaller euro style 150i.

Wow!
I didn't expect to see this much feedback and help from everyone.
I just started poking around this forum a few days ago and I agree with ddillon, this is the best resource for information on the Chinese scooters I have found so far. (Thanks ScootDog!)
It will help me a lot with my decision in buying a scooter and I'm sure I'll be a regular here in this forum.
Hey Woodlark, the 'Wussi' name caught me by surprise even my wife almost fell to the floor laughing. It sounds like a good scoot, though. I really don't care what it's called. I would even consider that brand before buying.
I could always peel off the 'W' and 'U' then it would be called an 'SSI' (LOL)
Anyway, thanks again everyone for the responses. ;D

How about we peel the W and one of the S's then reverse the other S so it looks like Uzi? What is funny about my Wussi is that the model is called the "Hammer 2.5".

I think the name is neater than "Tank" or "Roketa". Gives you something to talk about!

I saw a new model scooter on Ebay yesterday; it's a 250 touring-style, and apparently aimed at those who wouldn't be caught dead on a Wussi. It's the Macho-Man 250, and it says so in huge letters on the sides. These Chinese guys really just don't get it, do they?

hey,i'm proud of my"WUSSI",most females i know are pretty proud of theirs too, even thought i'm a man.that's spelled "M" "A" "N"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeah,i got a little ribbing at work, but the ride and gas mileage make up for it.i went down to pep boys and bought a couple of crome "naked girl" emblems and put them next to the crome nameplate on the front, looks good, and saved my "Manhood" at work.this scoot was supposed to be marketed in puerto rico, you can look it up in the net, search for wussi scooters, pretty good site and you can translate it to english,it has that option on the site, and see the other models they sell.i guess "WUSSI" means something else in puerto rican.i also put "NOS" emblems on the scoot, just to freak everybody out.

Hey nicholas!
We Wussi riders have to stick together! Compared to the horror stories I've heard here about some of the other brands, the Wussi appears to be a pretty darned good scoot!
