Hello all,
Thanks for taking the time to check this post out!
I have a relatively new scooter (50cc keeway hurricane) that I have recently been having problems with. It only has 170 miles on it, but its 3 years old with mostly garage sitting. I pulled out it of storage and cleaned the carb, replaced the spark plug, cleaned the fuel filter, checked nearly every hose, new battery, etc.
My problem is that the scooter starts, idles for a minute, then dies. when I try to restart, it wont start, or dies immediately after.
Any help or diagnosis you can offer is greatly appreciated! I am located in gainesville, fl if anyone can physically come check it out??

Hi Tmarsh, welcome!
I'm also in FLA (Ormond Beach). If you were a little closer I'd come and check it out, but that's a bit far for me. So, maybe we can walk you through some troubelshooting.
Based on your post, it sounds fuel related to me. When these scoots sit, and you clean the fuel tank, lines, carb etc, it's easy for some varnish from the old fuel to find it's way into the carb. In my experience, I've had to clean the carb a few times... Also, the fuel pertcock has a rubber diaphram inside which could have deteriorated from old fuel.
You can check the diaphragm by removing both lines and sucking on the vac line and hopefully fuel will pour easily from the fuel line. When you stop sucking, the fuel should cut off quickly.
I'm not saying that is your problem, but it's easy to check and would be a good starting place in the fuel system. Also, check your spark plug and tell us what color it is, we need to know if it's running rich or lean.
Keep us posted and you'll be running soon.

I'm unfamiliar with whatever a fuel pertcock is, I think i know it as a fuel pressure regulator? It thats the case, then yeah I was leaning towards that being the problem, but haven't the faintest idea of how to troubleshoot it. I pulled the fuel line off where it enters the carb to see if fuel was even making it to the carb, and it is receiving plenty of gas when I start the scooter.
The spark plug has a little white residue on it, not a lot, its almost brand new, only about 1 hour of run time, maybe 2.
I cleaned the carb a second time, still stalls after getting about a minute in, I've tinkered with the carb fuel/air adjustment screw just to get it turning over and starting at all. I feel like its at the perfect spot as far as engine idle and having the back wheel not spin wildly out of control while idling.
I dont want to find out its the valves and they need adjusting. I've read that 2-strokes can't have their valves adjusted, possibly on this very forum, so that would be terrible news.
Thanks for the tip about the diaphragm, I'll give it a test tomorrow and see if I can get some fuel all over me.

As a 2 stroke it's probably a slide carb, usually comes with an electric choke. If the pilot circuit or jet is clogged, the scooter will idle for up to 5 minutes on the enricher circuit, then die when it gets closed off and not start again for up to 10 minutes while the choke retracts. The white deposits suggest you're running lean, so one way or another it's not getting enough fuel. The F/A screw means little while the enricher is open, proper adjustment has to be made after the engine has been running for at least 5 minutes. The next cleaning I would take the carb entirely apart and clean each passage way. Push wire through the jets to assure no blockage. Check Carb Cleaning 101; a slide carb will not have the diaphragm but the rest of the instruction still applies. Also, have you verified that the oil pump is working? Just want to avoid problems down the road.
