I have had a problem with water getting into my gas tank (faulty seal around the gas cap). The first time I was able to take the scooter back to the dealership and they drained the gas and cleaned out everything for me under warranty. While it is still under warranty, I don't have a way to get the scooter to the dealership (I'm at college away from home) and the local shop in town wants to charge me $200!
I have a generic chinese 50 cc scooter. The service guy at my dealership back home told me to detach the vacuum line and suck on it and the gas would drain out that way...I was hoping one of you could tell me what the vacuum line was. I'm obviously not well-versed in engines so a picture would be helpful.
Thanks!

if you look at the valve that the fuel goes through, it has one hose that goes to the carb, the other comes from a vacuum port. the one from a vacuum port is the vacuum line, I suggest downloading a manual and looking it over, links in my sig line

What scooter do you have?
The vacuum line the service guy was referring to, I guess its the one from the bottom of your gas tank, running to the carburetor. When vacuum is applied (or if you suck on it) gas flows. SO yes, I guess technically you COULD drain the gas tank that way but dear lord, it would take FOREVER and what a pain to be sucking on a line for that long.
The easiest thing would be to simply take off the gas tank and drain it that way. Your gas tank should have a fuel petcock underneath it with 2 lines - one for vacuum, one for fuel. Apart from that it should have 1 electrical connector for the fuel sending unit - and thats it! I dont know what scooter you have, but it shouldnt take more than 1 hour! Why the shop would charge you $200 for taking the gas tank off a small scooter is beyond me.
Just remove the panels and whatever else you need to be able to lift the tank - it might include removing the seat and its rear bracket. Then unhook the lines from the carb, unhook the sending unit, and pull it off. Leave the fuel petcock on. Then just flip the tank over and let it drain into a suitable container =)

It should not take too horribly log to drain a few ounces of water from the bottom of the tank, even doing it like that, be sure to take the gas cap off. You can find a number of water in gas treatments at the autoparts stores. I'd suggest both, drain and treat.

There's only 1 line. From the carb, through the fuel filter, to the gas tank. Its on the side of the carb and you should be able to see it very easily. Like I said its only 1 line. Look under the gas tank where the petcock is, and follow the line that has the fuel filter attached.
