I did some poking around with a buddy today and found that the motor wasn't hosed. I put a compression tester on and saw that I was hitting 60 psi. Good. I tested for spark - good and solid. Tested for gas - good. I even hit it with ether some to try to start it, and it was close but wouldn't go.
Off the bad I thought the valves may have backed off or something, so I checked those. Intake was at about .055 and exhaust at about .065. I tightened them down to about .03 intake and .04 exhaust (maybe a touch smaller). It was still hard to start, but with some ether it finally took. Keep in mind that it has been sitting for about 2 weeks now, and it was about 28 degrees outside tonight, with the new BBK still not being broken in that much.
I think I needed a slight valve adjustment, maybe still need more to tune it better, but I also believe it's getting too much gas. With the intake filter off, if I touch my hand up to the carb while it's running, my hand gets wet with gas. I also need to go review the air/gas mix adjustment again.
Mostly, I'm happy that there are no real problems and there was no issue from letting it run in the parking lot. I think the fan gives enough air for it to sit at an idle and not overheat.
I am hearing a loud knocking while it runs, which I can't decide if it is caused by a valve knocking, or if this is just expected sound, or if I am hearing the noise of the unrestricted exhaust. Once the scooter warmed up, the knocking/rattling did seem to die down, which would lead me to believe it is a valve that is making noise, and once the oil warms up, it gets quieter once coated better. There was sufficient oil in the scoots through this whole process. Curious to hear what you guys think, must mostly just sharing the news for educational purposes for everyone else to learn from. I'll post videos here in a bit or the noise before everything warms up, and after.
