What's the correct belt size for a 2008 Roketa MC54-250B? The belt on the bike is a Gates 856-23; Roketa's parts breakdown calls for 870-22-30; In Earl's encyclopedic post elsewhere on ScootDawg, a picture shows an 871-23 Mitsuboshi belt.
The reason I ask is that I hear a squealing sound every time I start from a stop -- the squeal continues until I'm moving about 10 MPH or let off on the throttle. It sure SOUNDS like a slipping belt, but I'm open to the possibility that it could be the clutch. I have carefully cleaned the belt, variator, and clutch surfaces with solvent, as well as buffing up the variator surfaces with fine steel wool. Also checked the rollers, which seem OK. On the center stand, the rear wheel turns pretty freely with no squeak. The bike has around 3000 miles on it, and the belt appears to be in good condition.
I'd appreciate any advice on correct belt size, or the likely cause of the noise if it might be something other than the belt. Thanks Dawgs!

My 2c.....it sure sounds like a belt problem. For the relatively small price of a new belt, I'd sure try that first before wasting any more diagnosis time. Get the belt called for by the manual....can't go wrong.

Actually any one of those would probably be OK and work fine. The 871 gives one a little more top end speed. The smaller 856 one a little better take off speed but a little less on the top end. The factory was slapping on whatever they could get, so we wound up with more than one belt size that would fit. now the 856 might be a little tight to get on compared to the 871 size belt. But I don't remember anyone complaining about it so far.
When you have the belt off, just in case, spin the rear clutch unit and see if it has any funny sounds or feels to it. I was trying to think of what would make a squealing sound inside the CVT case. there have been a few cases on smaller 150cc and under engines with a spring breaking on one of the pads in the centrifugal clutch shoes.

Thanks guys -- Earl, I don't have any trouble getting the 856 on as long as I squeeze the clutch and get the belt down in there really well before putting it on the variator shaft. I'm probably more interested in takeoff speed than top-end speed, so maybe I'll order a new 856 belt, and inspect the clutch part next time I have the cover open. Will post the results here....
