Hello All,
I'm a new member and a new scooterer.
I got a 50cc chinese scooter from EVOSALES. Yes, I know, but it was all I could afford.
These scoots seem to have fuel system probs, but I haven't found much in the way of actual solutions.
My scooter ran fine for about 50 miles; now it has about 350 miles.
Symptoms:
Stumbles off idle and wants to die unless I SLOWLY increase speed,
Will stall if I quickly let off the throttle, but remain running if I slowly let off the throttle; this includes while I'm riding at speed.
I can feel the engine stall when I release the throttle while riding at say 25-35 mph then kick back in when I give it more throttle.
These probs seem to get worse during/after a long ride when the scooter is really warmed-up.
I did see another post titled "Roketa 50cc misses/stalls on road" does this seem like the same problem to you guys?
I really appreciate any help you can give this newbie.
BTW I live in a small town in Oregon and NOBODY in town will even look at this scooter much less try to fix it for me.
Another question:
Does the scootdawg owner's manual cover this scooter?

Have you called or emailed evosales about this? It may be a familiar problem to them, with a known solution. At least they may know of several things to check with your model of scooter. Sounds like an overly rich mixture to me. Make sure the wires to your auto enrichener circuit didn't come loose or come off. It is on by default and if the wires come loose it will stay on, resulting in a overly rich mixture. This manual is a 50cc GY6 shop manual and should cover your engine/cvt, including carburetor pretty well. www.scootdawg.com/downloads/GY6_50CC_MANUALscooter.pdf |

The ScootDawg owners manual covers most GY6 engined scoots but it is very basic... fluid changes, spark plug, etc. It is no going to help with problems like you are having. Lee intends to update it... someday soon. It's a good resource if you do not know much about the basics of scooter maintenance but if you are fairly handy it will be too simple for you. It does have nice pics and is easy to understand if you want to do your own basic maintenance. As to your scoot's problem.... Gotta admit it's weird one. Not vapor lock because it does run just stalls with rapid throttle position change.... that means it's unlikely a delivery problem as well. Check all the Vaccumn hoses connecting to the carb for leaks, pinching etc. Check intake mainfold for leaks let it idle and spray intake manifold with carb cleaner see if RPM changes. Don't spray it in the carb, just the manifold (big tube from carb to engine) beyond that it's some sort of carb issue that someone smarter than me will have to give you help on. I'll try them again, I've emailed EVO before without getting an answer.
I downloaded the PDF manual, it's a bit ahead of me, I was asking about the $12 scootdawg manual, I need a place to start.
But I don't even know what a GY6 is? or if I have one?
I'm going to look through the PDF manual and see if I can find the auto enrichener circuit you suggested.

This is in reference to the ScootDawg $12 manual^^^^
If your scoot is a 50 cc 4-stroke, which coming from EVO it probably is, it is a GY6. GY6 engines range from 50 cc to 150 cc and all are of the same Honda engineered design.
The enrichener is the only thing actually on the carburator that has electrical wires going into it. It's like a choke but it's electric and not manual. If this was malfunctioning in a way that caused it to stay on it would make the negine run very rich when warm and could cause the problems you are having. Check the wires going to it and see if they are unplugged. If not unplug them and see if if it runs any different,

Sorry, I just saw the post from ACD, not too familiar with forums. BTW, I grew up in Portland, ME even though I live in OR now. Coincidentaly, I'm going to Eugene tomorrow, only go once in a while as its 2.5 hours away.
I'll check in with Jim at Bandit and humbly ask his advice.

To get to the carb John you have to remove the pan (storage area) under the seat. Lift seat, remove a few screws or bolts holding the pan and lift the the pan out. Engine and carb are right there!

if you are closer to Portland you may want to try prestige Motors, or sargeants motorsports both sell and work on chinese scoots.

I'm the "Roketta misses stall on road". Check out the Tank manual on one of my last replies. It tells how to check out the auto choke and a LOT more. It's free-downloadable. I've had some of the same symptoms as you have. Using the manual and checking some of the same things I have should help. I'm new in the game and did'nt realize I was getting a "chinese scooter", but am learning a lot and hopefully can improve it-some people have gotten them running OK, so there is hope. I won't know for sure until I get my spark going. Check out that spark plug cap inards-seems to be a problem area-the specs are in the manual. Good Luck

From the description the issue sounds like you're running rich during idle. Have you tried to screw-in the mixture screw on the carburator while idling? You should adjust it to highest idle RPM. You might have to increase the idle screw first if your idle keeps dying, then back it up to the normal spot after the mixture adjustment.

I really think you have a vacum leak. Had the bolts going to the head come lose and gave the same idications.
