my friend put a bbk in at the beginning of may and all was good was doing 43-45mph on flats but now it seems to have lost power top end is around 38mph he just did the valve clearences thinking that might be the cause, they were off slightly but after he did them no power gain. i know he was having issues with the fuel petcock it was dumping fuel into the carb, he installed a fuel shut off, could that be part of the problem with the power maybe not getting enough fuel?

What about a worn belt? Was it replaced when the BBK was installed? It's worth pulling the cover too inspect it anyway.

You may be running to RICH especially if its hot out. Heat really makes you lose power, that is why in summer you have to Lean out your Carb and in the winter you have to Richen it up. It all has to do with the Air Density. In the winter or when its cool you will notice that your engine puts out more power. Alleyoop

it ran fine all summer could it be just the opposite that it is running lean now that it is getting cooler out. it only started to happen the last 2 weeks.
