Hello, I found what I think is a decent deal, a lance charming with 180 miles on it. The lady is willing to part with it for $300.00. She claims that she left it sitting and then it wouldn't idle. When I went by to take a look at it it wouldn't start. I have checked out the carb cleaning 101 and feel pretty comfortable with that, is there anything else that I should take a look at? Is this a decent deal? Thanks for all the help.

Could be a decent deal. Low miles. Not sure about this one, but some of the Charmings are lower HP, and run at or just over 30 maybe 35 mph.
Fuel problems sound reasonable. I'd also check valve clearances. All vacuum and fuel lines. for cracks or holes. Make sure your getting good spark. Change the fuel filter. Change the plug if its not a good looking NKG Iridium.

The lady might keep it if he does all that

You're right of course but..... Sparkplug, lines, and filter, all can all go on and come back off, and outside of a few rare instances, go right back on just about any 50cc china scoot you do decide on. I don't see how the venerable old lady would have to know a darn thing Pretty sure only about 30=60 mins tinkering, if you set yourself up right. 300 dollars is a good price if it can be made to run with even a little more attention than the above. I guess you could just go ahead, check for fuel, spark, compression, then roll the dice....but why?

Im just gonna pick it up. With that low of mileage I dont it can be in that bad of shape. Its turning over good enough, ill just take my chances. She is even willing to take payments, We will see what today brings, maybe she will even let me bring it home for a little down and I can tear into it. Im banking on it being a petcock or dirty carb. She said she took it to a mechanic and the spark plug is new, although i doubt that much maintenance was ever done to this thing. Ill keep you posted.

Check spark first just to be safe, but I would believe it is a dirty idle/pilot jet in the carb, very common problem when folks let their machines sit without adding Seafoam or draining the carb.

ok, I went over to pick it up with my brother in laws pickup truck and a can of starter spray. I took off part of the air filter sprayed a bit and it started right up, for about 30 seconds. So at least i knew i was good to go for a running scoot. Got it home and poured some sea foam into the gas tank and kept running it on the starter spray in the hopes that it would spit out whatever was stuck, it didnt. Then i ripped into when i got home from work. I watched the carb 101 a few days back and did it from memory on the carb . everything seemed fine. I checked the petcock valve and it seemed good. Cleaned up the card and got it all back in and she fired up great. drove it around with no seat for a bit. Its defenetly not running 30 mph (speedo is broken too!).o but I think i might try to ride it into work tomorrow. my question is : does the air flow mixture need to be messed with if I took the carb off and cleaned it ? Its running pretty sluggy. but its running a hell of a lot better than when i bought it.

Well i moved the air fuel screw all over and didn't really have any change. I left it running for about 25 minutes and then drove it down the street. when I got there it died, and i went to start it and the electric start appears to have gone out ! So I kick started it and it was idling pretty low. I adjusted the screw and didnt really get the results i was looking for, the screw was pretty hard to get to. I got the gps out and clocked myself , top speed was 16 mph. I'm going to take the carb off and make sure that I got it clean, thinking upgrading the jet and I will also take a look at the valves. I know realize that this thing has more than the posted mileage since the spedometer is broken so thats a real bummer.
