Most scooter take about + or - 3.0 oz of fluid to fill the rear end housing, My eton beamer calls for 3.4 oz. In my case, filling it to the fill hole would be too mutch. I use 90w synthetic for the rear and Amsoil 2 cycle synthetic for the mix tank, it burns real clean.

Drain it into a small measuring cup and put the same amount back in.
DO NOT OVERFILL

So, what if the wrong amount was in there to begin with? And, what exactly do you think would happen if it's filled to the top?
The general rule of thumb is you fill it until it backs up at the top. There is no such thing as too much gear oil.

Most scoots if not all have a vent tube on top of the gear case, so if its starts spitting out gear oil all over your engine out of the vent hose then you know there is to much oil in there.
I know from experience on the Trikes CY6 engine, I filled it till it came out of the fill hole and let it drip out until it stopped. Capped it off and went on my merry way. Then all of a sudden I smelled burning oil, it was spitting the gear oil out of the vent hose all over my hot engine.
It happened to another Triker Dwid62 and he warned me about it but I went with the Old Rule fill it till it comes out of the fill hole. Learned the hard way.
So to sum it up some you can fill till it comes out of the fill hole and some you cannot. Alleyoop

Well... we're talking about a Benelli X50, but even so, I'm curious about two things: Why it would come out of the vent, when on a GY6 the fill hole is less than 1/2 way up the crankcase (perfect oil bath level), and, if it does come out the pressure release vent, being at the rearmost part of the drive-train and pointing to the rear, how in the world can it go forward to the engine??

You have to be familiar with the Trikes. The fill hole is higher than half the case and its behind the Sprocket, to fill it you have to take the Sprocet off. Also the vent is quite a bit forward on the Gear caseing and its not pointing to the rear it is on top of the case.
The vent tube was tied up on the frame just ahead of the cross bar along with the Vent Tube from from the Valve cover. So it spit right infront of the starter and between the Carb. I added a piece of 1/4 fuel hose and stuck the 3/16 vent tube inside 1/4 hose and routed it to the rear Axle mounts on the swingarm and zip tied it there. Now if it spits out any oil it will go on the street. But I only made that mistake ONCE now I do not fill it up to the fill hole. I only put in about 220mm of gear oil. Alleyoop

That sounds like a design flaw to me Alley, maybe you should contact the company you bought it from and tell them to inform the factory since the design is new. There are some scooters that have the fill on top with a dipstick just like the oil fill. Would you still need to remove the sprocket if the fill were on top? I have seen some scooters with the vent forward, but all of them had a hose routed to the back. Poor design if you ask me... the Chinese are always in such a rush to bring new models to market.

I would also say it is a design flaw. Having to take the sprocket off to fill is unbelieveable they must of had to much zaki or whatever its called. They could just as easely put it on top or on the front of the case anywhere but where they put it. Alleyoop
