It's been in constant use while I'm riding for 5K+ miles. The lens and new connector have survived without any problem. I suppose that black tip does prevent a hot-spot on the lens...... Your plastic reflector is surviving OK with the H4 in it I guess. Makes me more determined to try to rig something up myself. I might look into notching the port in the reflector to nestle the tabs in... maybe see about fitting an H4 OEM style securing spring too. For eyeballing and mock-ups I have lots of surplus standard wattage H4's (55/60) hanging around from replacing them with 80/100's on my bikes and my brothers' over the years. Gonna' wait until I get something figured out before ordering more halogen bulbs without being certain about using them!

I didnt bend any tabs or notch the plastic - I drilled 4 holes in the outter housing to fit zip ties like Bluefront
I dont know that the black tip is to prevent a lens hotsopt so much as prevent an on-comming light hotspot. The shadow area is probbaly a non-issue in a vehicle with 2 wide spaced lights - the patterns would overlap and null any shadow.
The shorted 35/35 bulb might focus better in the xingyue housing than the 45/45 which appears to be a longer bulb, though I haven't had them both to compare side by side.
I think what I took out is a 25/25 'halogen' B20d. Brighter than the original but still weak weak weak.

I dont know that the black tip is to prevent a lens hotsopt so much as prevent an on-comming light hotspot. That could well be. The shadow area is probably a non-issue in a vehicle with 2 wide spaced lights - the patterns would overlap and null any shadow Never had any center shadow with my bikes despite coated tips on the H4 bulbs, but the headlights on them have all been pretty good ones vs. the mediocre plastic numbers on these scooters... possibly just a deficiency in the reflector is the cause.

After 1 bulb burned out on low side I got a pair of these 40/45W halogen bulbs. Haven't installed yet but sure it will be a brighter night ride. they also have several diff bulbs if your looking to replace some. www.partsforscooters.com/Head_light_bulb-40-45wGO Parts for Scooters!!

No partsforscooters com for me. They missadvertised a part that I bought and had to return, and I lost about $24 in total shipping cost.
the focus point of the reflector is a design item, and changing the filament location by a few millimeters does make a difference. If you have a different scoot with a different reflector, then a different bulb could cause an issue. Trial and error in the case of these chinese scooters. I looked at the headlight on a Honda SH150i last night and it was a halogen black tip. and that replector is shapped differently than the Xingyue ITA XY 150T - alot of the bosywork is only sligntly different. A parts lookup calls it to be a "BULB, HEADLIGHT (12V 60/55W) (OSRAM)" and the illustration looks like an H4

jeepsteve92xj - If you don't mind, (and so we don't hijack this thread) would you IM the details on your issue that you had with us? I'm unaware of it and would like to look into in further as what you describe isn't typically how we go about doing things.

BA20d to H4 Conversion
A couple pics of the H4 conversion I've been working on for my E-Ton R4... picked the retainer spring from a broken salvage yard headlamp, fashioned pivot/latch ends on my aluminum ring to match originals: H4 adapter ring/mount... Adapter with raw materials used to make it... Test fit in headlamp with element base in place. Fits nice and snug onto plastic bezel at back end of reflector which stock plastic BA20D socket bayonet-mounts into. Front of H4 base sits directly on plastic bezel (like yours, Bluefront) with only knife-edges of locating tabs and H4 base rim touching aluminum ring at all. Was thinking of using set screws to tighten/fix adapter ring onto bezel ring, but may just go with JB Weld instead... "Hmmm...?" Yet to order the 45/45W H4: www.bulbs.com/eSpec.aspx?ID=10646&Ref=10V+-+19V&RefId=328Will be using the same 3 hole hi-temp headlight socket as yours, Bluefront... think I'll delete the rubber boot over it and stick with the stock setup using rubber 'D' cover over back port of whole fixture. Hopefully my ring adapter will act as a heatsink and the large-ish inner space will be sufficient to diffuse the extra heat.

Hammerspur, I think you came up with a grand solution. As long as it doesn't melt anything, I'm sure you're golden!

Folks,
Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I need to replace my headlamp. On a number of sites, I have the option to purchase a 35w / 35w bult exactly like what is in there, or a 45w / 40 w bulb. The price is basically the same, so I'd like to go to the higher watt bulb. Can you think of any reason not to?
Could it be too hot?
Or too bright?
Tanks all!!!

Couple more things..... One other thing..... I also think I'm going to power the relay through a switch, so I can turn off the headlight on super-hot days when riding in town. I just love all these wires..... ;D That sounds like as good an idea as using the car seat belts on the Interstates and taking them off in town. You NEED the headlights on to increase the chances of being seen at intersections and driveway exits. If you are concerned about cooling, try mounting a small electronic cooling fan and switch that instead of the lights.

Hey all,
Does anyone have an opinion on the question I asked aboutchanging from 35w / 35w headlight bulb to a 40w / 45w bulb?
Thanks!
